A recent accreditation by a major association honored an Ivy Tech school as one of the best in the nation.
The Association of Technical, Management, & Applied Engineering (ATMAE) Board of Accreditation has granted full accreditation -- the highest level -- to 15 programs in Ivy Tech’s School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Science (AMEAS).
Across 97 program offerings and 1,164 individual standards reviewed, Ivy Tech achieved an exceptional 98.8% full-compliance rate, with only minor items identified for enhancement. Thirteen of 19 campuses met every standard, and the remaining six recorded only minor procedural findings.
Achieving the highest accreditation status positions Ivy Tech as a national model for program quality and academic excellence. Ivy Tech is the largest singly accredited community college system in the nation under ATMAE -- a distinction that underscores its statewide impact and national influence in shaping the next generation of technical professionals.
ATMAE cited Ivy Tech’s strong administrative systems, highly qualified faculty, advanced facilities, proven student outcomes, deep employer partnerships, and a culture of continuous improvement. The 2025 Visiting Team Report praised Ivy Tech for its academic rigor, modern laboratories, outstanding faculty, and robust alignment with industry needs.
The accreditation followed a comprehensive statewide review conducted September 21 – 23, 2025, by a distinguished ATMAE visiting team representing leading U.S. universities and industry. The team confirmed that Ivy Tech met or exceeded all 12 ATMAE standards, reaffirming the college’s position as a national model for excellence in applied engineering, advanced manufacturing, and technical education.
“The team was impressed by Ivy Tech’s depth of commitment to quality and innovation,” said Dr. Kamal Shahrabi, Chair of the ATMAE Visiting Team and President of RIT Kosovo.
What distinguishes Ivy Tech is not just the scale of its programs but the consistent excellence across every campus. It stands as one of the most comprehensive and well-coordinated systems I have ever reviewed.
– Dr. Kamal Shahrabi, Chair of the ATMAE Visiting Team and President of RIT Kosovo
ATMAE accreditation is regarded as the gold standard for technical and engineering technology programs across the United States. It validates that Ivy Tech programs:
- Meet rigorous national criteria for academic excellence, safety, and instructional quality.
- Maintain active industry engagement through advisory boards that ensure real-world relevance.
- Demonstrate high graduate employability, strong job advancement, and employer satisfaction.
- Provide students with transferable skills aligned with evolving industry technologies.
As part of the review, ATMAE interviewed representatives from campuses and the Systems Office, including academic departments, CareerLink, student services, and leadership. More than 100 advisory board members and over 150 students contributed through interviews and feedback, which were instrumental to earning the accreditation.
