INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A team of Ivy Tech Community College students were recently ranked in the top 10 for the National Cyber League’s (NCL) 2023 spring season, the country’s most inclusive, performance-based, learning-centered collegiate cybersecurity competition.
The NCL, powered by Cyber Skyline, enables students to prepare and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges they will likely face in the workforce, such as identifying hackers from forensic data, pentesting and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, and more. Schools are ranked based on their top team performance, their top student's individual performance, and the aggregate individual performance of their students.
NCL hosts two seasons of these challenges every year in the spring and fall, and this year, Ivy Tech ranked 7th overall at the national level for Cyber Power Rankings, in addition to ranking 5th in the Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) colleges category. This national cybersecurity competition represents the ability of students to perform real-world cybersecurity tasks on the Cyber Skyline platform.
Ivy Tech was represented as TheHackStreetBoys @ Ivy Tech Community College MUTC in the competition, making this the best team NCL score for Ivy Tech in the College’s history and the fifth consecutive year the College has ranked in the top 100 for Cyber Power Rankings. MUTC refers to Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, which houses the Ivy Tech Cyber Academy and provides students with a unique opportunity to learn at an advanced cyber training facility in a national defense training center. Much of the College’s success in the cyber space is attributed to the dedication and hard work of its faculty and staff, including Assistant Program Chair of the Cyber Academy, Joe Bodden.
These rankings capture what we hope every student who decides to pursue a career in information technology (IT) does with an Ivy Tech credential - take their education to the next level. Our work to constantly strengthen the School of IT’s curriculum design and align it with the needs of our employer partners is equipping anyone with an Ivy Tech credential with the knowledge, agility, and excellence to successfully enter the workforce.
