Commercial Driving License (CDL-A) training classes - Terre Haute

Funding to help cover class costs is available to those who qualify. $500 grants are also available to Vermillion County residents to pursue their Commercial Driving License (CDL-A) training at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute. Classes are provided by the Center for Transportation Safety. Students must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license to enroll.

May 18 - June 5 (Mon-Sat) 8:00am-6:00pm, EST
Permit class:Saturday, May 9 8:00am-6:00pm, EST
* No class on May 25 (Memorial Day/ campus closed)

Cohort #19
June 8-26 (Mon-Sat) 8:00am-6:00pm, EST
Permit class: Saturday, May 30 8:00am-5:00pm, EST

Cohort #20
July 6-24 (Mon-Sat) 8:00am-6:00pm, EST
Permit class: Saturday, June 27 8:00am-5:00pm, EST

The “Permit Class” is a study prep course that helps students obtain their Class A – CDL Learner Permit. If students already hold a Class A – CDL Learner Permit they are not required to attend the “Permit Class”.
All classes will end on a Friday.

The average truck driver job salary in Indiana is $47,000, and the average experienced driver can earn an annual salary upwards of $60,000.

There are more than 100 job postings in Vermillion, Vigo and Sullivan counties, and those postings could have more than one driver position available.

Help paying for class costs

The class cost is $4,950, which includes a drug test, books, and one test. $500 grants are available to Vermillion County residents to help cover class costs. Additional funding is available to individuals who qualify through WorkOne.
