Ivy Tech Northeast is excited to announce IvyLiving courses for spring 2017!

IvyLiving programs are non-credit classes promoting personal growth and lifelong learning through engaging and intriguing short-term experiences. Local and regional experts will share their knowledge and passions with you in a small group setting.

Ivy Tech Culinary Camp for Middle School Students
April 3–6

COST: $250 for general public;
$225 for Ivy Tech employees/students

Welcome to the culinary kitchens at Ivy Tech Northeast. This is no peanut butter-and-jelly operation. Your middle schooler will spend the week experimenting with a variety of recipes and cooking techniques after learning about food safety, basic knife skills, and the science behind cooking. On the final day, two family members get to taste the fruits of your child’s labor with a complete meal served at Ivy Tech. Location subject to change.

Make your family and friends green with envy as you master the rules of healthy and hearty gardening. Ivy Tech Northeast’s agriculture chair, Kelli Kreider, teaches you everything you need to know to get started, from preparing beds and planning for appropriate sunlight to harvesting techniques and exploring raised beds, container planting, and hydroponics. As a bonus, you’ll leave the class with your own set of “starts.” They will be ready to go into your garden at the start of planting season.

Anything Is Pawsible–Obedience Training for Your Dog
April 28–May 26
Fridays, 7–8 p.m.
COST: $85

Teach your Fido some new tricks during this five-session obedience training course. Instructor Amber Williams is a certified dog trainer and a member of the Fort Wayne Pitbull Coalition. She has a passion for dogs and specializes in correcting behavior issues and teaching owners how to train their dogs. Enrollment will be limited to 10 owners/dogs, and dogs must be between 8 weeks and 6 months old. Owners must bring their dog on its own collar and leash, and all dogs must have proof of up-to-date DHLPP with Bordetella vaccinations.

When Root Beer Meets Ice Cream

COST: $75 one parent and child;
$25 = additional child (maximum of two children per one parent)    

Create a fond memory for you and your child as you team up to make your own root beer floats from scratch. We provide the ingredients and show you step-by-step how to brew your own root beer and make ice cream the old-fashioned way.

Homebrewing 101–Hops, Mash, and Beers, Oh My!
April 29 and May 13                       
1–4 p.m.
COST: $99

Calling all craft beer lovers! Microbrewery regulars and novices alike are encouraged to perfect the brewing process through instruction from our brewmeister, Rob Walker.  During this two-session class, he will explain the ingredients, processes, and equipment that brewers have used for centuries, and then he’ll guide you through brewing your own six-pack of beer. You’ll take home all of the equipment you’ll need to start crafting custom beer in your own home. Participants must be 21 or older.

($149, 25% discount for employees/students)
Week 1 for 8-10 year olds: June 12-16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Week 2 for 11-14 year olds: June 19-23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need.

Students are invited on a journey into the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Participants will:
•    Conduct environmentally friendly chemistry experiments
•    Defend computers from hackers and security threats
•    Study the chemistry of food
•    Explore area nature preserves
•    Identify animals and plants native to northeast Indiana
•    Program robots
•    Study alternate energy sources, such as wind and solar power
•    Tour area technology businesses
