Manufacturing Day highlights the importance of manufacturing to the economy and draws attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs available in manufacturing fields.

In support of National Manufacuturing Day, the South Bend campus will be one of several stops for local schools and adult leaners throughout St. Joseph County as attendees get an opportunity to interact with a variety manufacturing companies via the South Bend Regional Chamber on Friday, Oct. 6.
2017 TOUR SCHEDULE
Tour One: 9:15-10:25 a.m.
Tour Two: 10:40-11:50 a.m.
Tour Three: 12:05-1:35 p.m.
Tour Four: 2-3:30 p.m. (adult leaners)
Attendees will be treated to presentations by the different programs within the School of Technology. There will also be several informational booths for individuals can get in-depth information regarding a specific area.

In honor of MFG Day (National Manufacturing Day), Ivy Tech Community College is encouraging the community to participate in an open house Sept. 27 at its Kokomo Technology Center. The event will showcase the wide variety of high-tech, hands-on training available at Ivy Tech across all age and educational attainment levels.
The open house is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Technology Center at the corner of Touby Pike and Trialon Court and will include activities, demonstrations, and information sharing by Ivy Tech faculty, staff, and students. Hands-on experiences for visitors will involve robotics, 3-D printing, virtual welding, CNC machining, agricultural soil lab, automotive experience, HVAC/Trane experience, and advanced manufacturing. A number of area employers are expected to be on hand to discuss current and future job opportunities and the importance of training and certifications offered at Ivy Tech.

Manufacturing Experiences (ME) programs introduce students to local industry, showcasing career opportunities and pathways for 1,100 8th and 10th grade students in Kosciusko County. Manufacturing is a central part of Kosciusko County’s economic landscape with industries around agrobusiness, automotive, boat production and medical devices - specifically orthopedics.
DiscoverME offers community-responsive curriculum and introduces manufacturing at a pivotal time when students begin thinking about high school coursework and their career interests. DiscoverME is offered to 8th grade students and addresses the need for skilled labor while uncovering misconceptions students may have about local manufacturing.
Due to Covid19, field trips will not be offered this year, but we’ve continued our partnership with several employers, including: DePuy Synthes, IMD, Medtronic, Paragon Medical, PMT, Polywood and Zimmer Biomet. In place of tours this year, we’re featuring five new “homeroom” lessons that highlight the manufacturing process through hands-on and virtual activities. We’ve also created new cross-curriculum that moves away from college and career standards and into a more STEM focused objective, highlighting the innovation and processes of manufacturing.
