Sonography is a growing and rapidly changing field. Get the training you need for your career in our cutting edge laboratory!

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMSI) Program offers degrees in sonography with three different concentration pathways – cardiac, vascular, and general. A sonographer plays a role in the non-invasive diagnostics process through the use of creating images from ultrasonic imaging devices.  The sonographer typically prepares patients, explains the exam process, performs the procedures, and reports the findings to the patient or physician.

Students in the Healthcare Specialist program are able to study a wide variety of certification options, including Dementia Care, Phlebotomy, Personal Training, Pharmacy Technician, and more!  Students receive clinical hands-on practice in actual healthcare settings, with a mix of classroom and time in the lab. For example, Pharmacy technician labs use actual state-of-the-art equipment; Phlebotomy students receive hands-on training with a 100 hour externship in an approved lab setting; and Outpatient Insurance Coding students use software and coding manuals that are actually used by hospitals and insurance companies for billing and coding procedures, so no matter which certificate path you choose, you will be well prepared to enter the workforce.

Imaging Sciences

Medical Imaging

Our students have an excellent pass rate on the national board exam, our programs are accredited, and we have great clinical support from community healthcare providers.

The Medical Imaging Program offers a degree in radiologic technology. A radiographer is a professional who is skilled in the art and science of radiography and is able to apply scientific knowledge, problem-solving techniques, communication, and the use of high tech equipment, while providing quality patient care.  The Associate of Applied Science program includes courses in the following areas: technique, exposure, positioning, protection, physics, patient care and ethics. Clinical practice and supplemental instruction are provided in accredited hospitals and clinics.

Kinesiology and Exercise Science

Kinesiology and Exercise Science will provide an understanding of the human body and its motion to prepare students to be anything from a fitness instructor or coach, to working in sports management and marketing.

With a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, you will acquire an understanding of motion, particularly of the human body. Students in this program will learn through observation, participation and measurement of the human form with a number of techniques, which range from muscular strength and cardio fitness to flexibility and more. Ivy Tech offers small classes with access to individualized instruction. This is where students will learn more about the anatomy and physiology involved in sport movement, explore the psychology of coaching, and analyze the fitness industries, among other requirements of this degree.

Medical Assisting

Medical Assisting

Our students get to participate in simulation labs acting as a member of a healthcare team to prepare for the real-world as a Medical Assistant!

The Medical Assisting program at Ivy Tech offers exciting, hands-on learning where student simulations are as “real-life” as possible. Students in the program get to learn from faculty who are credentialed and have real experience in the field.  In additions students have the opportunity to participate in an externship in the community.

Medical Laboratory Technology

Medical Laboratory Technology

This program is excellent for "budding scientists" and builds quality skills for anyone wanting to work in hospital, reference, or research laboratories.

Everything in the Medical Laboratory program at Ivy Tech is very hands-on. All courses consist of both a lecture component and a lab component, and labs are set up as true to real life lab as possible. Students will work on microscopes, chemistry analyzers, do microbiology testing, etc. just like in a real lab. In addition, the clinical experience gives them a semester of learning in a real hospital lab.

Practical Nursing (LPN)

Nursing (RN)

Associate of Science in Nursing - Nursing students have opportunities to care for real patients in a variety of clinical settings, and skills are also learned in simulation labs. The growing use of the simulations allows students to assume roles not available to students in a clinical setting.  This allows them to make critical choices and see the results of those choices. We utilize a variety of learning strategies in the classroom and clinical settings to appeal to every learning style.

Optometric Technology

This program gives you the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work in optical sciences. Through access to state-of-the-art lab equipment, optical clinics and dispensaries you will be provided with substantial real-world experience. During your time in the program, you will be eligible to take the national certification exams offered through the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE).

Paramedic Science

Paramedic Science

This program offers lots of scenario-based critical thinking exercises, labs with high fidelity manikins, hands-on patient assessments, and even a cadaver lab so students can practice advanced life support skills that would otherwise be only lectured about in class.

A paramedic helps save lives in the event of illness or injury and gain the satisfaction of assisting others in emergency situations. A paramedic can make a difference and change lives. A person that chooses to become a paramedic is someone who wants to be a public servant and has the gift of compassion and caring. Even the smallest detail can make the difference between life and death.

This program provides education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. Curriculum is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. The Practical Nursing program leads to a Technical Certificate that can be completed in one year.

Radiation Therapy

Ivy Tech offers the only associate degree radiation therapy program in the state of Indiana and our VERT program is one of just 11 such programs in the United States.

Radiation Therapy utilizes ionizing radiation in a strictly controlled environment to treat disease, primarily cancer. High-energy x-ray, gamma, proton and electron beams are common forms of ionizing radiation used. Ionizing radiation can be administered using external beam therapy or by placing a radioactive material directly into a body tissue or cavity. We offer hands-on learning opportunities such as Virtual Linear Accelerator (VERT), Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning System, and Clinical Rotations.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapy

Ivy Tech campuses around the state offer 9 of the total 11 Respiratory Therapy programs in Indiana.

Respiratory Therapists are health care specialists who provide care for patients with breathing disorders.
