A qualified faculty member in Software Development (SDEV) meets the program standard through one of five routes:

  • Possesses an earned master’s degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution, in software development, computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science or a computer-related field as appropriate to the program; or
  • Possesses an earned related or out-of field master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 semester hours or equivalent of courses beyond the introductory principle(s) level in software development, computer information systems, management information systems, information technology, computer science or a computer-related field as appropriate to the program; or
  • Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following:
    • Professional certification (national, regional or state)
    • Two years of in-field professional employment
    • Documented evidence of teaching excellence, including date of award
    • Documentation of research and publication in the field

We want team-oriented individuals comfortable working with an established curriculum and program. About the Role:

Provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs; provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes; engage students outside of class in support of the curriculum and cocurriculum; provide institutional support and community service; participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives; support the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives; conform to campus expectations of faculty performance and engagement. Work closely with all teams in support of the Lilly Scholars program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. INSTRUCTION

1. Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning outcomes.

2. Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.

3. Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required. Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices.

4. Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.

5. Use Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment and communication.

6. Work with project directors and teams in support of the Lilly Scholars program ensuring labs are appropriately outfitted and programs are fully staffed.

7. Maintain labs ensuring equipment is functioning and safe for student learning activities.

8. Develop student learning activities and exercises pursuant to future careers in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

9. Assist in recruiting students to the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs and the Lilly Scholars program.

10. In collaboration with Lilly project directors assess equipment and program outcomes to support labs and curriculum upgrades and modification ensuring industry alignment.

11. Participate in statewide curriculum committee meetings standardizing curriculum and labs.

12. Work with dual credit and dual enrollment partners and internal K14 staff supporting labs, curriculum, student recruitment, and secondary faculty credentialing.

13. Conduct summer workshops to credential faculty.

14. Participate in “Discovery Days” at local employers to recruit students into industry.

15. Other duties as assigned.

II. RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS

1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.

2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.

3. Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).

4. Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.

III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Participate in professional development activities that may include scheduled training, time spent onsite in related business and industries, and self-study to advance instructional and technical skills as well as current knowledge within the field of study.

2. Participate in scholarly activities related to the discipline/focus, in fulfillment of annual performance plans, and as required for certification and licensure.

3. Stay current in contemporary pedagogy, digital technology, and other technology related to teaching that best support student learning.

4. Stay current in technology and trends related to biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

5. Stay current and participate in automation and system integration technology as related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

6. Frequent visits to local manufacturing facilities and participation in externships to support industry alignment.

IV. COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND BUSINESS OUTREACH

1. Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the college’s relationships within its service area as appropriate for department/division/college.

2. Develop community/industry/business contacts to advance college relationships within service area as appropriate in the department and division.

V. INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

1. Provide institutional support as requested by college administration such as participation on committees and task forces, projects related to college and program accreditations, and grant related projects.

2. Support and engage with Ivy + Career Link, Ivy Tech Foundation, other internal departments as needed.

3. Attend commencement and participate as assigned by regional administration.

4. Participate in college/campus-wide meetings and departmental/division/faculty meetings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction, faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 as applicable to the specific area of instruction.

Biotechnology Program Standard

A qualified faculty member in biotechnology meets all three of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field; and
  • Completed 18 graduate semester hours in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, and/or microbiology; and
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 100,101, 102, and 103 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 101, 102, and/or 103 meets the biotechnology program standard or both of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience as a scientist, production manager or equivalent position,

or

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has appropriate professional certification in the field. Certification can be obtained by completing a faculty credentialing workshop hosted by Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech faculty leading/instructing the workshop must have taught the course for Ivy Tech at least three times prior to running such a workshop.
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 104 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 104 meets one of the following criteria:

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Meets the Biotechnology program standard.

or

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience in quality in the biotechnology industry.

BIOT 105 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 105 meets one of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. 1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, sociology, or human services, behavioral sciences, or other related fields (e.g. earned Juris Doctor degree),

and
2. Possesses one of the following:
· Professional certification in the field, or
· Two years of directly related work experience, or
· Completed academic preparation appropriate to the program.

Adjunct Faculty - Faculty members who are not guaranteed, by written agreement, a full load of teaching, advising or coaching, institutional support, community support, and professional development support work. Adjunct faculty are employed on a term-by-term basis, and there is not an expectation of ongoing employment, a nine- or twelve-month agreement, summer term employment, or employee benefits commensurate with full-time faculty status.

Adjunct faculty are allowed no more than 12 weekly contact hours per semester. Department of the Treasury calculations allow for 2.25 hours of work per 1 hour of teaching time. A 12-contact hour load, therefore, is equal to 27 hours of work time. Work time may not exceed 30 hours per week. Campus chancellors must approve course loads beyond 12 contact hours, prior to the execution of the contract. In the case of adjunct serving in more than one campus, or serving in regions and with Corporate College, course loads must be managed to keep below the 12-contact hour threshold. Adjunct faculty may be expected to participate in non-instructional service, provided teaching and non-teaching hours do not exceed 30 hours per week. Term loads may not be averaged in order to remain below the 12-hour/30-hour threshold.

        • Provide syllabus to students; follow syllabus content and requirements.
        • Maintain student attendance and grading records.
        • Submit requested information within established timelines.
        • Deal with student concerns; consult with program chair to resolve issues.
        • Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course.
        • Use classroom technology (Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc) as appropriate.
        • Notify program chair in event of any emergency.
        • Conduct all work activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of population, views and learning styles.
        • The above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.

        A full- or part-time faculty member in the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) and Practical Nursing (PN) program must meet all of the following criteria:

        1. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse and,
        2. Possesses a current, unencumbered Indiana Registered Nurse license, and
        3. The majority of faculty shall hold master’s degrees in nursing.
        4. Faculty with Bachelor’s degrees in nursing must meet ALL of the following
        requirements:
        a. Within one semester of initial appointment, must have a written academic plan of
        study for completion of a Master’s degree in nursing, and
        b. Provides ongoing documentation (each semester) demonstrating matriculation
        towards completion of a Master’s degree in nursing, and
        c. Continued employment of a person who does not hold a Master’s degree in
        nursing shall be contingent upon documented progress towards their approved
        academic plan.

        Preferred Qualifications:

        Competency in teaching courses in assigned area attained through actual classroom teaching experience. Writing and grammar skills. Ability to communicate concepts to students to assist in their learning. Ability to organize tasks and establish priorities with little or no direct supervisor input. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
