GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
Provide developmental academic advising for new and continuing students using a case management approach. Assist students in defining personal and academic career goals, interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curriculum and pre-requisites, and developing basic skills to register for courses, as appropriate. The Academic Advisor will refer students to appropriate internal and external resources that foster student success.

Possess a working knowledge of the various types of student financial assistance programs.
Manage academic advising case load in a manner that promotes retention, persistence, and student success through proactive interactions and interventions.
Assist students in the development of an Individualized Academic Plan.
Monitor student progress through regular meetings, communications, interventions, assessments, and data collection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related fields; Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or related discipline preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling or related higher education area is required or one (1) year of experience with a Master’s degree.
Experience working with and being committed to diverse communication.
Excellent communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate initiative and working in a team environment.

Provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs; provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes; engage students outside of class in support of the curriculum and cocurriculum; provide institutional support and community service; participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives; support the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives; conform to campus expectations of faculty performance and engagement. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. INSTRUCTION

1. Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning outcomes.

2. Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.

3. Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required. Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices.

4. Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.

5. Use Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment and communication.

6. Work with project directors and teams in support of the Lilly Scholars program ensuring labs are appropriately outfitted and programs are fully staffed.

7. Maintain labs ensuring equipment is functioning and safe for student learning activities.

8. Develop student learning activities and exercises pursuant to future careers in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

9. Assist in recruiting students to the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs and the Lilly Scholars program.

10. In collaboration with Lilly project directors assess equipment and program outcomes to support labs and curriculum upgrades and modification ensuring industry alignment.

11. Participate in statewide curriculum committee meetings standardizing curriculum and labs.

12. Work with dual credit and dual enrollment partners and internal K14 staff supporting labs, curriculum, student recruitment, and secondary faculty credentialing.

13. Conduct summer workshops to credential faculty.

14. Participate in “Discovery Days” at local employers to recruit students into industry.

15. Other duties as assigned.

II. RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS

1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.

2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.

3. Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).

4. Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.

III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Participate in professional development activities that may include scheduled training, time spent onsite in related business and industries, and self-study to advance instructional and technical skills as well as current knowledge within the field of study.

2. Participate in scholarly activities related to the discipline/focus, in fulfillment of annual performance plans, and as required for certification and licensure.

3. Stay current in contemporary pedagogy, digital technology, and other technology related to teaching that best support student learning.

4. Stay current in technology and trends related to biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

5. Stay current and participate in automation and system integration technology as related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

6. Frequent visits to local manufacturing facilities and participation in externships to support industry alignment.

IV. COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND BUSINESS OUTREACH

1. Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the college’s relationships within its service area as appropriate for department/division/college.

V. INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

1. Provide institutional support as requested by college administration such as participation on committees and task forces, projects related to college and program accreditations, and grant related projects.

3. Attend commencement and participate as assigned by regional administration.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Biotechnology Program Standard

A qualified faculty member in biotechnology meets all three of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field; and
  • Completed 18 graduate semester hours in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, and/or microbiology; and
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 100,101, 102, and 103 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 101, 102, and/or 103 meets the biotechnology program standard or both of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience as a scientist, production manager or equivalent position,

or

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has appropriate professional certification in the field. Certification can be obtained by completing a faculty credentialing workshop hosted by Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech faculty leading/instructing the workshop must have taught the course for Ivy Tech at least three times prior to running such a workshop.
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 104 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 104 meets one of the following criteria:

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Meets the Biotechnology program standard.

or

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience in quality in the biotechnology industry.

BIOT 105 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 105 meets one of the following criteria:

The Ivy+ Career Link team provides quality customized and open enrollment training opportunities for clients and community members in our campus service that are seeking to learn more about specialized areas. Qualified instructors are needed to develop and deliver various contract and open enrollment trainings. Testing Services Manager

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Testing, Tutoring, and Library Services (or designee) and indirectly reporting to the Executive Director of Statewide Testing Services for tasks associated with statewide Testing Services policy and procedure, the Testing Services Manager will manage Testing Services operations within the campus and/or rollup campus area. The manager will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of all Testing Services operations in the roll-up campus. The Manager is responsible for maintaining set standards of exam administration and security procedures within Testing Services. The Manager will establish and maintain relationships with Academic Affairs, Student Success, Enrollment Services, Workforce, other departmental staff, faculty, testing vendors, partners and other stakeholders as appropriate.

· Ensure the administration of exams through Testing Services to meet exam integrity and security as well as provide exemplary customer service. This includes operational support to campus roll-up sites or locations that deliver exams outside of and/or without a dedicated Testing Center.

· Ensure that all Testing Services staff charged with exam administration meet vendor process and administration requirements.

· Manage the scheduling of Testing Services activities.

· Manage record keeping and reporting of Testing Services activity. Keep records of all Testing Services exam administration conducted on the campus and campus roll-up sites and other information as necessary to provide reports in a timely manner.

· Measure and maximize Testing Center capacity. Ensure that appropriate equipment is available for the administration and security of exam administration.

· Hire and supervise appropriate staff, such as proctors.

· Communicate and market Testing Services to internal audiences.

· Maintain Testing Services budget including exam and supply purchasing.

· Work alongside Workforce Alignment and Academic partners on curriculum and/or training that includes exam administration.

· Work closely with other Testing Services Managers to ensure consistency for candidates and promotion of academic integrity. Active participation in Testing Services Management group discussions and attendance at statewide meetings.

· Stay abreast of knowledge about academic assessments, certifications and exam providers.

· Explore opportunities and make recommendations to leadership on ways to add/expand services to meet student and community needs.

· Obtain and maintain vendor credentialing to act as an occasional backup, temporary proctor when needed.

· Participate in training as necessary to stay abreast of appropriate technical areas.

· Coordinate the use of any exam administration workstations placed at outlying locations.

· This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Supervision Received: Director of Testing, Tutoring, and Library Services or Academic Affairs designee. Matrix reporting to Executive Director Statewide Testing Services in Systems Office.

Supervision Given: Testing Services support staff and proctors. Staff necessary to operate Testing Services effectively.

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

· Three (3) years related experience in one or more of the following areas: testing centers, information management, resource management, training, or education.

· Working knowledge of computers is essential.

· Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

· Must possess an ability and a willingness to travel in the performance of assigned duties.

The minimum annual salary for this role is $46,300.

Testing Services Proctor - Part-Time

To provide skills assessment services to potential and enrolled college students utilizing approved assessment instruments and standardized procedures;
To provide appropriate proctoring services for high stakes workforce certification exams according to required protocols and guidelines

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour.  

Reports to: Director of Testing Services

- Varies up to 28 hours weekly based upon testing needs

- Normal office hours: 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday (Some tests might be administered outside of normal office hours and / or on weekends.)

- The Test Proctor is expected to work at Lake County Campus which includes Crown Point, East Chicago, and Gary locations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide certification, assessment, and distance education exam administration according to designated proctor policies and procedures
  • Conduct remote test proctoring as needed via a secure internet connection
  • Complete all required high stakes exam proctor training and stay current with exam protocol changes
  • Provide limited hardware and software troubleshooting, including calls to testing company technical support services when problems arise
  • Maintain accurate records of all assessment services provided and supply this information to appropriate college offices on a timely basis
  • Adjust testing procedures for individuals according to documentation provided by the Special Needs Counselor prior to testing sessions
  • Assist with scheduling center activity. Respond to customer queries
  • Promote, demonstrate, and maintain a professional manner and appearance
  • Assist in keeping the assessment and certifications centers organized, clean, supplied, and well maintained when on campus
  • Other related or appropriate duties may be assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between three locations in Lake County
  • Associate degree and at least three (3) years experience in an administrative support environment
  • Must have good technology skills and the ability to assess and troubleshoot system issues both remotely and in person
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills; above average computer literacy; experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, preferably Microsoft Office
  • Ability to set priorities, manage time effectively, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse staff and student population
  • Perform test administrative duties to maintain the proper functioning of the office
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to research and resolve student and employee related issues
  • Ability to keep departmental information confidential
