GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
Provide developmental academic advising for new and continuing students using a case management approach. Assist students in defining personal and academic career goals, interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curriculum and pre-requisites, and developing basic skills to register for courses, as appropriate. The Academic Advisor will refer students to appropriate internal and external resources that foster student success.

Possess a working knowledge of the various types of student financial assistance programs.
Manage academic advising case load in a manner that promotes retention, persistence, and student success through proactive interactions and interventions.
Assist students in the development of an Individualized Academic Plan.
Monitor student progress through regular meetings, communications, interventions, assessments, and data collection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related fields; Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or related discipline preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling or related higher education area is required or one (1) year of experience with a Master’s degree.
Experience working with and being committed to diverse communication.
Excellent communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate initiative and working in a team environment.

Provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs; provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes; engage students outside of class in support of the curriculum and cocurriculum; provide institutional support and community service; participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives; support the College’s mission and strategic plan initiatives; conform to campus expectations of faculty performance and engagement. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. INSTRUCTION

1. Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning outcomes.

2. Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.

3. Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required. Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices.

4. Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.

5. Use Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment and communication.

6. Work with project directors and teams in support of the Lilly Scholars program ensuring labs are appropriately outfitted and programs are fully staffed.

7. Maintain labs ensuring equipment is functioning and safe for student learning activities.

8. Develop student learning activities and exercises pursuant to future careers in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

9. Assist in recruiting students to the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical programs and the Lilly Scholars program.

10. In collaboration with Lilly project directors assess equipment and program outcomes to support labs and curriculum upgrades and modification ensuring industry alignment.

11. Participate in statewide curriculum committee meetings standardizing curriculum and labs.

12. Work with dual credit and dual enrollment partners and internal K14 staff supporting labs, curriculum, student recruitment, and secondary faculty credentialing.

13. Conduct summer workshops to credential faculty.

14. Participate in “Discovery Days” at local employers to recruit students into industry.

15. Other duties as assigned.

II. RETENTION AND STUDENT SUCCESS

1. Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.

2. Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.

3. Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).

4. Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.

III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Participate in professional development activities that may include scheduled training, time spent onsite in related business and industries, and self-study to advance instructional and technical skills as well as current knowledge within the field of study.

2. Participate in scholarly activities related to the discipline/focus, in fulfillment of annual performance plans, and as required for certification and licensure.

3. Stay current in contemporary pedagogy, digital technology, and other technology related to teaching that best support student learning.

4. Stay current in technology and trends related to biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

5. Stay current and participate in automation and system integration technology as related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

6. Frequent visits to local manufacturing facilities and participation in externships to support industry alignment.

IV. COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND BUSINESS OUTREACH

1. Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the college’s relationships within its service area as appropriate for department/division/college.

V. INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Biotechnology Program Standard

A qualified faculty member in biotechnology meets all three of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field; and
  • Completed 18 graduate semester hours in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, and/or microbiology; and
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 100,101, 102, and 103 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 101, 102, and/or 103 meets the biotechnology program standard or both of the following criteria:

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience as a scientist, production manager or equivalent position,

or

  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in life sciences or chemistry, and
  • Has appropriate professional certification in the field. Certification can be obtained by completing a faculty credentialing workshop hosted by Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech faculty leading/instructing the workshop must have taught the course for Ivy Tech at least three times prior to running such a workshop.
  • Has two or more years of experience in the field.

BIOT 104 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 104 meets one of the following criteria:

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Meets the Biotechnology program standard.

or

  • Holds up-to-date American Society for Quality certifications: Certified Quality Improvement Associate and Certified Quality Process Analyst, and
  • Possesses an earned bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and
  • Has 5 or more years relevant industry experience in quality in the biotechnology industry.

BIOT 105 Course Standard:

A qualified faculty member teaching BIOT 105 meets one of the following criteria:

The Ivy+ Career Link team provides quality customized and open enrollment training opportunities for clients and community members in our campus service that are seeking to learn more about specialized areas. Qualified instructors are needed to develop and deliver various contract and open enrollment trainings.   • Ensure the classroom and instructional laboratory environment are conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices.

  • Participate in college-wide, campus, and program meetings, including the Program Advisory Committee.

  • Ensure completion of professional development required to maintain professional licensure. 

  • Meet all professional development requirements of program accreditor.

  • Stay current in contemporary pedagogy, digital technology, and other technology related to teaching that best support student learning.

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to professional area of instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

A qualified director of clinical education in Respiratory Therapy meets all of the following criteria: 

  • Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution and 

  • Holds a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license, and

  • Has a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care, and 

  • Has a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or a clinical preceptor.

The Director of Development is responsible directly to the Campus Chancellor with indirect reporting to the Vice President of Fundraising of the Ivy Tech Foundation (Systems Office) for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive set of strategies to convert prospects into donors and to encourage continued and increased giving by current donors to meet the strategic goals of the institution.

The Director of Development will be a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet with the purpose of providing leadership that aligns with the College’s core values and implements strategies in order to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus. This position promotes diversity, integrity, community engagement, innovation, and excellence; is accountable to perform statewide responsibilities to maintain consistent statewide curricula, policies, and practices. This position will work closely with appropriate Systems Office leadership to establish strategies coordinated with statewide efforts in key areas of focus (recruitment, enrollment, completion, retention, and student success).

FUNDRAISING

Solicits individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations for annual, major ($10,000 or greater), and planned gifts towards annually determined goals to meet the strategic priorities of the campus and College.

Coordinates and executes the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of the donor cycle (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship).

Collaborates with academic partners and the grants department in the Foundation Office (Systems Office) to identify and submit grants proposals to support College initiatives. 

Creates methods to involve campus staff in development efforts. 

Engages Foundation Board of Directors, Campus Board of Trustees, and other local campus boards or councils as active members in the development process and encourage their own philanthropic support of the College. 

Represents the College at community events and through community organizations in order to identify new avenues of additional philanthropic support for the College. 

Coordinates contact and solicitation of multi-campus and statewide donors with appropriate staff from Foundation Office and other affected campuses and/or sites.

DEVELOPMENT PLANNING AND ADMINISTRATION

Ensures effective records maintenance, including recording new proposals and tracking their status and recording contact reports in a timely manner, using the Foundation’s prospect management system.

Provides stewardship of gifts including acknowledgement process, coordinating recognition events, dedications, scholarship donor recognition/communication, and working with the Foundation Office on appropriate recognition.

Manages and supports scholarship administration including developing and submitting an annual scholarship budget, as well as serving as a liaison between Development and Financial Aid. 

Works with the Campus cabinet to plan a comprehensive calendar of development events, communications, stewardship, programs and solicitations to tie in with campus goals and needs, and coordinate with overall statewide Foundation efforts and strategic plan.

Serves as liaison between the campus (and/or site) and Foundation Office staff for coordinated projects, reports, guidelines, and development procedures.

As a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet:
