Key Responsibilities
- Assist in intake meetings with students to discuss accommodation needs.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of academic accommodations.
- Provide one-on-one support to students (e.g., coaching, study strategies, self-advocacy skill-building).
- Assist with case management tasks, such as documentation review and follow-up communication.
- Conduct outreach to students regarding DSS resources and services.
- Support students in using assistive technology and campus learning tools.
- Collaborate with DSS staff on workshops and events related to accessibility, mental health, and student success.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with FERPA and ADA/Section 504.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a master’s program in counseling, social work, psychology, higher education, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Interest in supporting diverse student populations, including students with disabilities.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered service.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of disability laws and accommodation processes in higher education.
- Strengthen counseling, advising, and case management skills.
- Gain experience in assistive technology and accessibility tools.
- Develop strategies to support self-advocacy and resilience in college students.
- Build professional skills for work in higher education or disability services.
Schedule & Compensation
- Internship can be semester or academic-year-based.
- Hours per week: 20-28
- Compensation: $20/hour
