BASIC FUNCTION

Support of the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Sciences and Information Technology (IT) programs and faculty, regarding management and operation of laboratory machinery, workspaces, inventory, parts, supplies, test equipment, apprenticeship program/documents, and courseware.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and organize the necessary tools, materials, and equipment prior to each lab.

Assist faculty during laboratory sessions in a support role (not instructional lead).

Serve as a “test student” by trialing lab activities to check clarity, rigor, and feasibility before students perform them.

Assist with automotive and agriculture department tasks.

Assist with greenhouse operations by maintaining plant health through propagation, climate management, and pest control practices.

Set up and tear down labs across all program areas.

Maintain an accurate and detailed inventory of equipment, tools, and consumables for all departments.

Communicate with program chairs about equipment that is out of order, has low supplies, or requires replacement.

Maintain clear and consistent communication with faculty and adjunct faculty members regarding lab needs, safety, and equipment readiness.

Perform routine function checks on computers and software in IT and instructional labs.

Work with department chairs for long-range planning for lab upgrades and equipment improvements.

Maintain flexibility to assist with varying job demands and interdisciplinary projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduate or equivalent required.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.

Working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area.

Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and computer systems.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Willingness to learn safety procedures and model them for peers.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, adjuncts, and staff.

Please note: this is an on-campus position.

Preferred Qualifications

            A working knowledge of FANUC robotics, ASTM procedures, and SolidWorks design software is preferred.

Interest in applied sciences, such as manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, automotive technology, and IT.

A working knowledge of electrical fundamentals.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

            Reports to the Agriculture (AGRI) and Automotive Technology (AUTI) Technology Department Chair. This position will have dotted line responsibilities to the other SoAMEAS and SoIT department chairs.
