Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time appointments assigned each semester based on program needs. The adjunct faculty member is responsible for cultivating a learning environment that supports student success and professional growth, while delivering high-quality instruction and assessment consistent with the common course syllabi established by the School of Health Sciences and the Medical Assisting Program.

Adjunct faculty members in Medical Assisting are expected to:

• Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned courses.
• Provide and adhere to syllabi appropriate to each course, following all required content and academic standards.
• Maintain accurate student attendance, academic progress, and grading records in accordance with College policy.
• Submit all required documentation, reports, and course materials within established timelines.
• Provide academic support to students outside scheduled class time, including scheduled office hours or availability for questions.
• Address student concerns promptly, consulting with the Program Chair or Program Coordinator as needed to resolve issues.
• Meet all scheduled classes, labs, and clinical sessions for assigned courses.
• Utilize instructional technology—including Canvas, PowerPoint, and simulation tools—as appropriate for course delivery.
• Uphold professional, ethical, and accreditation-based expectations consistent with MAERB and CAAHEP standards

Additional Expectations for Medical Assisting Adjuncts

• Deliver instruction aligned with the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) Core Curriculum competencies.
• Demonstrate strong competency in pharmacology, including medication classifications, dosage calculations, safe medication administration, and regulatory compliance.
• Support laboratory and clinical skill development consistent with program policies, safety expectations, and professional scope of practice.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, credentialing requirements, and best practices within ambulatory care settings.

Work Hours: 

• Hours vary by course, however this section includes a 16-week on-campus course scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
• Additional hours may include daytime, evening, or occasional weekend responsibilities depending on course assignment.
• Availability to teach courses such as MEAS 109, 110, 209, 218, 219, 238, 239, 260, and 299 is highly preferred.

A qualified faculty member teaching MEAS 109, 110, 209, 218, 219, 238, 239, 260, and 299 must meet the Medical Assisting Program Standard, defined as one of the following:

Option A — Direct Qualification:

• Minimum of one year of related work experience in the Medical Assisting or ambulatory healthcare setting.

OR

Option B — Credentialed Qualification:

• Possesses an earned associate degree from a regionally accredited institution; and
• Has a minimum of one year of related work experience; and
• Holds current professional certification in the field (e.g., CMA [AAMA], RMA [AMT], CCMA [NHA]); or
• Has completed academic preparation appropriate to the course being taught.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong pharmacology background and demonstrated ability to teach medication safety, calculations, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience teaching in higher education or in clinical training environments.
• Proficiency with Canvas LMS and educational technology.
• Commitment to student success, equity, and high-quality workforce preparation.
