About the Role:
Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Campus is seeking a skilled General Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. The role involves assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Facilities Maintenance Department by receiving, prioritizing, and responding to all maintenance work orders. The technician will also be responsible for performing preventative maintenance (PM) tasks and troubleshooting maintenance issues, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, drywall, and more.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Trade school certificate or journeyman licensure.
- Experience with low-voltage cables and BICSI certification.
- Background in commercial or educational institution maintenance. Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

Key Responsibilities:
The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Building Inspections & Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and resolve issues with building components, equipment, and Furniture, Fixture & Equipment (FF&E).
Tool & Material Management:
- Maintain organization and accountability for tools, materials, and supplies.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination:
- Escort vendors and coordinate with third-party contractors to complete projects and perform PM work.
Electrical Repairs & Installations:
- Troubleshoot and install wiring, receptacle/switch circuits, and maintain electrical fixtures.
- Replace light bulbs, ballasts, and perform minor electrical repairs.
Plumbing Repairs:
- Clear clogged drains, troubleshoot leaks, install/repair plumbing fixtures, and maintain water treatment systems.
HVAC Repairs & Maintenance:
- Perform minor HVAC maintenance tasks like changing filters, diagnosing system performance, and troubleshooting equipment (fan coil units, air handlers, compressors, etc.).
- Monitor HVAC systems to regulate temperature, comfort, and air quality.
General Repairs & Renovation:
- Perform minor construction tasks such as painting, drywall repairs, carpeting, and ceiling tile/grid repairs.
Grounds Maintenance:
- Assist with snow removal and other grounds work as needed.
On-Call Duties:
- Participate in the maintenance on-call rotation, available for one week at a time every six to eight weeks (24/7 availability).
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties related to maintenance as required and directed by leadership.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Experience: 3-5 years in a relevant trade or maintenance setting (commercial maintenance preferred).
- Ability to read and understand instructions related to maintenance tasks.
- Experience with digital work order systems (on computer/tablet).
- Ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
- Physical ability to move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds (heavier tasks with assistance).
- Must be able to safely navigate stairs, ramps, and ladders.
- Ability to travel to various buildings within the Indianapolis service area using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement available) or college vehicle (with approval). Must hold or be able to obtain an Indiana driver’s license.
