The VISC Program Coordinator plays a key role in the administration, marketing, and operational management of the Visual Communications (VISC) program. This position supports student recruitment, retention, and success by coordinating internships, community partnerships, and advisory committees. The coordinator manages marketing materials, including social media presence, and collaborates with the college marketing team to promote program initiatives.

The role includes overseeing equipment maintenance and inventory, providing technical support for specialized design tools and software, and ensuring the smooth operation of VISC labs and classrooms. Responsibilities also involve supervising interns or work-study students, coordinating events and workshops, and managing print and graphic design requests for the campus.

This position requires a blend of administrative, technical, and creative skills to enhance the student learning experience, support faculty, and maintain program excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration

  • Determine and lead action steps positively in recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
  • Support development of student internships and other real-work experiences to support the curriculum and student experiential learning.
  • Coordinate program advisory committees and assure broad-based membership and participatory agendas.
  • Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college and develop community/industry/business contacts to advance college relationships within service area as appropriate in the department and division.
  • Maintaining marketing and promotional materials, including but not limited to, social media platforms and presence for VISC program.
  • Support the program/department chair in program management activities, including assisting with Workday requisitions and receipts, coordinating VISC-related events and workshops, and supervising interns and work-study students.

Marketing

  • Fulfill with campus print jobs/requests through the online submission form.
  • Fulfill campus graphic design jobs/requests through the online submission form.
  • Work collaboratively with the college marketing and communication team.

Equipment Maintenance and Inventory

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on art supplies and equipment, including printers, scanners, projectors, and other specialized tools.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks of art supplies and computer peripherals, ensuring an adequate stock level for lab activities.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment repairs and replacements as needed. Oversee equipment purchases and maintenance and supplies for instructional laboratories.

Technical Support​

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to students, faculty, and staff on the use of VISC-specific computers, software applications, and specialized art/photo equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, including printer malfunctions, network connectivity problems, and software compatibility issues.
  • Assist VISC users in accessing and utilizing design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other industry-standard applications.

Lab Operations

  • Organize and fulfill VISC print job/requests.
  • Manage daily operations of VISC spaces, such as classrooms, Mac computer labs, and print rooms. This includes opening and closing procedures, overseeing printing, mounting, and trimming, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of workstations, tables, and storage areas in each VISC space.
  • Enforce lab policies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
  • And other duties as assigned to support the VISC program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working in an art studio or computer lab environment, preferably with experience in Mac computer operations and Adobe software.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting technical issues and providing technical support to users.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service-oriented approach to supporting lab users.
  • Knowledge of art materials, techniques, and processes is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for performing detailed tasks with art supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while assisting users and performing maintenance tasks.
