About the Role:
This is a full-time position with the Environmental Management Institute at the Ivy Tech Lawrence campus.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Strong ability to develop and deliver engaging, effective training programs for adult learners.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Proficient in the use of instructional technologies, audiovisual equipment, and other teaching aids.
• Knowledge of learning environment management, including ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Ability to adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of learners and create a positive, safe learning environment

Key Responsibilities:

The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

• Coordination and management of instructional programs for the institute including:

• Curriculum development and review
• Classroom instruction reviews
• Support and coordination of adjunct instructors

• Instruction of initial and refresher courses in a combination of the following areas:

• Lead Safety
• Asbestos
• HazWOPER
• Other areas such as OSHA 10 & 30 (Construction and General Industry), confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.

• Completion of relevant state- or EPA-approved asbestos, lead-specific training courses, or any other courses necessary to be an instructor of core courses.
• Tailor lesson plans and training programs to meet the specific needs of diverse learners, ensuring all course objectives are met and regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
• Conduct both classroom and hands-on training, utilizing technology-enhanced methods when appropriate.
• Manage and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment, addressing learner differences and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Oversee and guide adjunct instructors, ensuring adherence to course material, and providing support as needed.
• Stay updated on changes in local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and state-specific requirements such as Indiana (326 IAC, 410 IAC) and Illinois (Illinois Admin Code).
• Participate in continuing education and professional development programs to stay current with training best practices and regulatory changes.

• Will require some travel to Illinois for training purposes

*Percentage of time within these responsibilities will fluctuate throughout the calendar year depending on availability of adjunct instructors and program development and review.

Education & Experience:

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Education, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
• Applicable state and federal environmental agency regulatory knowledge
• Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, TEAMS, and Word
• 3 or more years of experience in the environmental consulting and/or education industry
• 1 year developing curriculum, lesson plans, and/or classroom instruction
• 3 years environmental field experience

Position Preferences/Ideal Experience:
• Instructional and/or workplace experience in core health and safety areas:

• Lead Safety (Inspector, Risk Assessor, Supervisor, RRP)
• Asbestos (Inspector, Supervisor, Management Planner, Project Designer)
• HazWOPER (Site Worker, Emergency Response, RCRA/DOT)

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
• Experience with NIEHS Worker Training Program or similar certifications.
