GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Maintenance Technician works under the general direction of the Executive Director of Facilities and has responsibility for maintenance, safety, and sanitation of Ivy Tech Community College Hamilton County equipment, facilities, and grounds as assigned. Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on buildings and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment. Also completes minor construction projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Perform assigned work orders in a timely manner which includes timely updates of online work order system.

- Assist in the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment including HVAC.

- Perform timely cyclical preventative maintenance tasks and maintain reporting documentation.

- Assist supervisor with cyclical safety inspections.

- Assist supervisor with managing key system.

- Clean and maintain assigned areas and equipment.

- Open and secure buildings as required.

- Respond to building system alarms as well as intrusion alarms.

- Alert appropriate personnel to system and building alarms.

- Report facility deficiencies, needs and failures to supervisor.

- Suggest methods and means for best practices and process improvements.

- Perform repairs and maintenance as directed.

- Perform seasonal tasks outside as assigned.

- Load/unload and deliver equipment and supplies.

- Move furniture and equipment as assigned.

- Assist in the installation of copper water lines, drain lines, fixture repair or replacement.

- Assist faculty and staff as required.

- Assist students/faculty/staff with directional/security/safety information.

- Perform purchasing activities for Facilities department and maintain adequate inventory of approved products.

- Ability to proficiently operate building automation software.

- Assist with construction projects to include drywall, painting and flooring.

- Assist in the installation of conduit, wiring circuits, receptacles, switches, and controls.

- Needs to understand polarity, 110 voltage, and 208/220 voltage. Must be able to comprehend and follow LOTO program.

- Availability to respond to building emergencies and work off shift hours, including weekends, as requested by your supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- 2 years of related experience. Facilities maintenance experience is preferred.

- Read and follow manufacturer and other published instructions

- Follow instructions and work independently

- Oral and written communication skills

- Operate and perform repair or maintenance on equipment

- Computer skills including experience with MS Office applications

- Ability to plan and estimate time and materials

- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

- Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

- Occasionally push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and cabinets including work from ladders and aerial lifts

Pay range is $17.02 - $19.00 per hour.
