TERRE HAUTE - ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER
Amber Harnack, Director
I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State University in Speech Communication/Public Relations and a Master’s Degree from the University of Evansville in Public Service Administration. Before beginning my work at Ivy Tech in December 2004, I recruited for the Office of Admissions at ISU, visiting high schools and managing the scholarship program. Upon arrival at Ivy Tech, I advised, recruited and planned on-campus events for prospective students in the Office of Admissions. I found advising to be a passion and immersed myself into the research and development of the Advising Center that now exists. I made the transition to the newly developed Director of Advising position in 2008. I also enjoy instructing an IVYT 120 class each semester. I’m known to some as the crazy cat lady and enjoy walking the circle around campus after work each day.
Matthew Broussard, Assistant Director/Advisor
College is fun and advising should be fun too! I’ve been very privileged to help students start their college journey. My favorite part of the job is how rewarding it feels to see students succeed!
Since earning my Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of Houston, I have stayed a life-long learner. I’ve studied Web Design and Interactive Media, and I’m currently pursuing my Master's in Curriculum and Educational Technology. When I’m not studying something new or helping new students, I’m probably playing guitar.
As a Texas native, I’m still getting used to Indiana’s weather, but it’s nice to have all four seasons!
Lisa Moore, Assistant Director/Advisor
I have been with the College for 12 years and I really enjoy helping students. I believe that if you are willing to sacrifice and work hard in school that it really can change your life. One of my favorite parts of my job is encouraging students who are nervous or facing challenges.
My background includes working in admissions, career services and teaching. I especially enjoy learning more about leadership and helping students become leaders on campus and in their community. Outside of work, I love to read and crochet. My husband, Chris, is an Ivy Tech graduate and we met here on campus.
I look forward to working with you and helping to take the next step in reaching your goals!
Deborah Giffel, Transfer Coordinator
I am a graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and minors in Women’s Studies and History. I am currently taking courses for a Master's in Organization Leadership through Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. I have been in academia for many years and love helping people pursue their dreams. In addition to advising, I have taught IVYT 101 for the past three years. In my spare time, I love to read, spend time with my family and travel and camp with Girl Scouts. Stop by and see me for all your transfer questions!
Linda Laffoon, ISU Transfer Advisor
Building relationships and helping students reach their goals has always been my passion. I love my work and feel I make a difference in the lives of the students I work with.
Since earning my Bachelor's and Master's of Fine Arts degrees from Indiana State University, I worked for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as Associate Director of Distance Education before returning to ISU to the School of Graduate Studies. For the past four years, I have been the ISU Transfer Coordinator on the Ivy Tech main campus. I have the advantage of working with two great educational institutions and helping Ivy Tech students reach their goal of completing an Associate's Degree and transferring to ISU to complete their Bachelor's Degree.
Stop in and visit, and we will talk about transfer opportunities to ISU.

I began working at Ivy Tech in the Admissions Office in 2009 as a Telecounselor and Student Affairs Assistant. In my new role in the Academic Advising Center, I advise new students interested in the School of Public and Social Services. I am dedicated to helping each new student reach their goal of becoming an Ivy Tech graduate. In my spare time, I love spending time with my child and watching Hoosier basketball. Please come see me and get started on reaching your very own goals!

I just roll with the punches and go with the flow but don’t you think for moment I’m a jester. I received my Bachelors of Arts in History with minors in Sociology and Philosophy from Central Washington University. I completed my Master of Science program at Indiana State University in Higher Education Administration. My passions are filled with exciting hobbies as well as keeping active because life is an adventure. I moved to Indiana in 2010 from the state of Washington and have enjoyed every moment. One way you will remember me is by my life motto, “If I put you first and you put me first then no one will ever be second.” I look forward to working with you to achieve the goals you have to change lives!

I graduated from Indiana State University in 2006 in Education and received my Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education. I have worked in higher education since 2007 in various roles. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, attending football games (Go Bears!) and continuing my education.
As an Academic Advisor, I am excited about working with students interested in the Health Professions and students who are undecided in their educational goals. I especially enjoy working with students who have other responsibilities outside of schoolwork. It takes a very dedicated individual to complete a degree while working and parenting, but it can be done. I look forward to helping you obtain your degree at Ivy Tech!

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” (Lao Tzu) With this statement in mind, I want to help you begin your journey in education.
