Monday through Friday June 10-28, 9:00 a. m. to 3:00 p.m.
Project Title: Artforce One – A summer apprenticeship opportunity for high school students
Throughout the apprenticeship experience, participants will explore continuing opportunities on campus and in the community, enjoy guest performances from Arts for Learning artists, and learn from guest speakers from both the arts and education fields.
During the first week of Artforce One, apprentices will gain skills in their chosen arts discipline under the direction of a professional teaching artist. In the second week, they will learn how to teach within their art form and will work in teams to develop lesson plans for a youth workshop. In the final week, participants will travel to AYS summer camps in Marion County and teach their workshops directly to younger campers. The third week will culminate with an exhibit of student work and findings displayed in the Ivy Tech gallery space with a reception for family and friends. Closure for the high school students comes from the practical experience of using the skills they have learned during prior sessions to teach younger children during their apprenticeship week.
Target population is 20 teens, ages 15-18, from area high schools.
