On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed at the Philadelphia Convention. In 2004, this day became a federal holiday that we recognize as Constitution Day.

Constitution Day Activities at your Campus

Bloomington

Constitution Day activities include voter registration in Lamkin Hall from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Free copies of the constitution will be distributed.  The History Department will have Constitution trivia questions posted on the campus televisions throughout the day.  1776 The Musical will be shown in the Student Commons from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  This is an educational film that teaches us about the Constitution.

Central Indiana (Indianapolis)
Attend a presentation entitled “U.S. Constitution: How it Affects College Students on September 17th at 11:00 am in IFC 102.  Following the presentation, don’t miss U.S. Constitution Jeopardy from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

Receive a free copy of the Constitution by stopping by one of the following locations on Monday, September 17 between 11:00am and 1:00pm.

• Office of Student Life room 125 IFC on the North Meridian Campus

• Main Lobby on the Lawrence Campus

Columbus/Franklin

On September 11th, the American Red Cross will be in room 217 for a blood drive between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.

On September 17th, view “A More Perfect Union:  American Becomes a Nation,” a video about the Constitution and chronicles how America became a great nation.  It will be in room 200 at noon and refreshments will be served.

Pocket Constitutions will be distributed to students.  You can also view the large replicas of the U.S. Constitution on display.

East Central (Anderson, Marion, Muncie, New Castle)
In celebration of Constitution Day, Ivy Tech's East Central region is hosting a panel discussion in downtown Muncie at the Fisher Building, 345 S. High Street at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012. The topic of discussion will be Citizens United vs The U.S. Election Board and its impact upon the electoral process. IPR will be moderating and covering the event. Panelists will include political figures from our area.
Kokomo (Kokomo, Logansport, Wabash)
On the Kokomo campus, Constitution Day activities will take place on Monday, September 17th at 11:30 am in Alumni Hall.  Come learn about the constitution and the importance of being an informed citizen!  There will be a short program by Ken Ferries, associate professor and program chair for social and behavioral science, and free copies of the constitution for all that attend.  

On the Logansport campus, join the Student Government Association for a cookout to celebrate Constitution Day on September 17th!  The cookout will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Logansport Mayor Ted Franklin will speak at noon in the Student Commons. 

On the Peru campus, the Student Government Association will be hosting a voter registration drive on Monday, September 17th throughout the day.  Stop by the table to register to vote!

 On the Wabash campus, the Student Government Association will staff a table on Monday, September 17th to hand out copies to the constitution and provide light refreshments.  Stop by to get your copy!

On each campus, students will have the opportunity to:

Northeast (Fort Wayne)
Constitution Day activities will take place on September 17th in the Student Life Center Commons from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm.  A Constitution Day display, created by the Campus Activities Board, will be on display. Students will receive handouts including Constitution facts and famous quotes.  In addition, students can play Constitution Bingo for Ivy Tech giveaways.  Voter registration information will be available.  Light refreshments will be served.

Northwest (East Chicago, Gary, Michigan City, Valparaiso)
There will be Constitution Day Cafés set-up at each campus the week of Constitution Day.  It will be a community space where students can participate in discussion on a national/local topic they choose. 

Constitution Day related documentaries will be shown on our televisions region wide the week of September 17th.

  Also each campus, students will have the opportunity to:

•                Sign the Constitution!  Sign a mock constitution and be entered into a raffle.

•                Participate in the Constitution Day Trivia Game. Students can spin the wheel and win prizes.

•                Register to vote.

•                Receive a pocket sized Constitution booklet.

Richmond (Connersville, Richmond)

A voter registration drive will be held on September 17th in Johnson Hall Lobby from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.  Students, faculty, and staff will be able to register to vote by paper application or via online registration. Students will also have the opportunity to receive a free pocket Constitution, complete a Constitution Quiz or list to narrations of speeches/letters written concerning the Constitution.

Southeast Indiana (Batesville, Lawrenceburg, Madison)
Each campus (Madison, Batesville, Lawrenceburg) will have a display about the Constitution with historic facts about many of the founding fathers.  Students can also receive a free pocket Constitution.  The movie “Iron Jawed Angels” will be shown during the following times/locations with a follow up discussion after the movie:

• September 11th, Lawrenceburg Riverfront campus, 3:30 pm -6:30 pm   

• September 17, Madison campus, 3:00 pm-5:30 pm

Southern Indiana (Sellersburg)

Students, Faculty, and Staff are invited to enter the This I Believe Essay Contest. Submit brief personal essays that illustrate what the U.S. Constitution means to you.  Essays should be submitted to the Office of Student Life (G5, Pfau Hall) by 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14th.  Entries will be featured in an electronic publication.

Southwest (Evansville, Princeton, Tell City)
The campus community is invited to listen to a presentation by Featured speaker, Steve Offerman on Monday, September 17th, who will provide a vivid and dramatic presentation about our Constitution and our first President, George Washington, and other Founding Fathers. 

Register to vote and pick up a pocket size copy of the Constitution on Monday, September 17th through Friday, September 21st in the Koch Student Center.

Stop by Carter Library and view two grand displays– one in the Library and one in a special display case in the Koch Student Center.  The Library will also construct and feature a “Walking Timeline” (Entrance B, Main Building) which will be placed on the floor – in red, white, and blue – tracing the timeline of the Constitutional Convention. 

Finally, be sure to read the Constitutional FACTOIDS that will be displayed on the plasma screens and on Campus Connect.

Wabash Valley (Greencastle, Terre Haute)
There will be a Constitution Day celebration on Monday, September 17 at 12:00 pm in H136.  History professor John Benton will lead a discussion about the Constitution as it relates to the upcoming election.  Everyone is encouraged to attend this free program.
