Attention Educators!
Ivy Tech Community College has been approved by the Indiana
Professional Standards Board to be a provider of Certification Renewal
Units (CRUs), which are required for master’s degreed teachers
to renew their state teaching licenses. Under Indiana’s teacher
licensing requirements, teachers must earn a total of 90 CRUs or
six college credits every five years.
Teaching with Technology Program
Each course provides an overview and skill development
activities for the application, as well as connections to activities
in the curriculum and time for faculty participants to discuss and
develop lesson plans based on the material they have learned. The
Program consists of Microsoft Office applications, Digital Photography/Imaging,
Using Smart Classroom Technologies, Integrating the Internet in
the Curriculum and Creating Web Pages. Call for details!
Spanish for Educators
Dealing with language barriers in the classroom can be
a difficult situation. This class is designed for teachers interested
in learning the Spanish language for use in a classroom setting.
The focus will be on vocabulary and pronunciation in everyday situations.

Praxis/ParaPro
Ivy Tech Community College – Region 11 has also been approved
by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to offer the PRAXIS Series
(Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers) and Paraprofessional
Testing for teaching assistants covered under the federal “No
Child Left Behind” legislation.
National testing dates for the Praxis Series and Paraprofessional
Testing are scheduled on the following Saturday’s at the Madison
and Lawrenceburg Campuses. You can register online @ www.ets.org/praxis

Classes
Real Estate Brokers
Approved by the Indiana Real Estate Commission, this course prepares
participants for the state broker examination. To obtain a broker’s
license, the individual must have a sales license and have been
assigned to a broker for one year.
Real Estate Sales
Approved by the Indiana Real Estate Commission, this course will
provide students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to
act as a real estate salesperson. Excellent preparation for the
real estate law, property valuation, title transfer, and closing
transactions
Exceptional Customer Service
We’re all in the same business—customer service! Whether
we are talking on the phone, meeting customers face-to-face, or
working behind the scenes, delivering exceptional customer service
is critical to your company’s success. Participants will learn
how to build rapport with customers and to consider each service
situation from the customer’s point of view.
Stress For Success
Does your job stress you out? Stress and worry on the job can be
harmful, causing problems that damage your health and performance.
Signs of work stress include headaches, loss of morale, lack of
concentration, upset stomach and short temper. If you suffer form
any of these symptoms, enroll in Ivy Tech’s Stress for Success
seminar.
Substitute Teacher Training
This course is designed to prepare you to become a substitute teacher.
Included are such things as state requirements, licensing, understanding
grade levels, classroom management, preparation, school policy and
procedures, special situations, lesson plans, responsibilities,
and generally how to be a successful substitute.
Early Childhood Education
The Childhood Development Associate (CDA) Program focuses
on the skills of early child care and education professionals. To
obtain the CDA, you must successfully complete a series of four
classes and an assessment from the Council for Early Childhood Professional
Recognition. The CDA Program will apply towards the two-year Associate
of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Financial
assistance is available to qualifying students.
Introduction to Early Childhood Education
Entry level course for Early Care and Education teachers. It provides
an overview of the history, theory, and foundations of early childhood
education as well as exposure to types of programs, curricula and
services available to young children.
Health, Safety and Nutrition
Examines basic principles of child development, developmentally
appropriate practices (DAP), importance of family, licensing, and
elements of quality care of young children with an emphasis on the
learning environment related to health, safety, and nutrition.
Curriculum in the ECE Classroom
This course examines Developmentally Appropriate environments and
activities in various childcare settings. Explores the varying developmental
levels and cultural backgrounds of children.
The CDA Process
Prepares the student for the verification process for the Child
Development Associate (CDA) credential. Students are provided opportunities
for practical experience through supervised participation in early
care and education settings.
Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Train for an exciting career as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician!
Course topics include: Ambulance operation, pulmonary depression
and arrest, cardiac arrest, bleeding and shock, sterile techniques
and management of acute medical and psychiatric problems.
Pre-Licensing Courses
Get your insurance license!
These classes meet the Indiana Department of Insurance
requirement needed to sit for insurance license exams. Attendance
is mandatory at each session. Students will receive a Certificate
of Completion from Ivy Tech and the Department of Insurance, which
allows a student to sit for the state licensing exams.
*Property and Causality
Topics will include: History of property Insurance, Home
Owners Policy, Personal Auto Policy, Other Personal Property Insurance,
Negligence of Legal Liability, Personal Liability Insurance, Ethics,
and Insurance Laws and Regulations.
*Life, Accident and Health
Topics will include: Introduction to Life Insurance, Life Insurance
as a Contract, Special Life Policies, Special Annuities, Disability,
and Medical Insurance.
Create Professional Looking Publications
Microsoft Word makes it easy for you to create and publish
professional looking publications. Using MS Word, you can produce
letterhead, envelopes, business cards and promotional flyers/brochures.
This hands-on course teaches you how to utilize shapes and Word
Art to promote your business or services.
Effective Web Design
Are you interested in building a web page? Microsoft FrontPage makes
it easy. Explore the basics of web site development by learning
to work with tables, pictures and hyperlinks. You'll also learn
techniques to customize your web site working with shared borders,
page banners, frames and navigation bars.
QuickBooks
You will learn how to set-up a QuickBooks Company, enter
account opening balances, create and customize company lists, set-up
inventory, sell products, invoice for services, process customer
payments, and work with bank accounts. You'll also learn to enter
and pay bills, set-up an internet connection and use online services.
