| History:
Although there were active and engaged groups on campus prior
to 2005, it was with the change from Technical College to Community
College that a new push for student involvement began. It was recognized
that the students who are involved in co-curricular activities on
campus are the ones who experience more success in the classroom
and have higher graduation numbers. These students were also more
likely to obtain employment after graduation and reported more satisfaction
with the college experience as a whole. As a result, the college
hired Student Life Directors in every region to oversee the development
of a Student Life area of involvement.
The Madison campus already had three clubs in
place that just needed another advisor to help carry the load. Student
Government Association, Student Leadership Academy, and Phi Theta
Kappa were already thriving and thinking of ways to expand their
offerings and opportunities. However, at that point the need for
another club was immediately recognized and Campus Activities Board
(CAB) was conceived. Later in the year, faculty stepped forward
with ideas for a fitness club, a computer club, and a nursing and
health sciences club.
The Lawrenceburg campus already had Student Leadership
Academy, Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, MEA Delta,
and IT Delta computer club. The Student Life coordinator will help
further develop these clubs through social, cultural, and educational
activities, along with volunteer work in the community. Working
together with the Batesville campus, Campus Activity Board was added
to support activities/events on this campus. Campus Activity Board
works in partnership with the Student Government Association at
the Lawrenceburg campus.
Ivy Tech faculty, staff, and administration are supporting whatever
it takes to get students active and involved on our region. We are
challenging you to take the step to be involved and become a leader
on your campus. We guarantee you won’t regret this decision!
