Compass Information
Students seeking admission in one of Ivy Tech Community College’s programs of study or wishing to enroll in credit classes must first take the COMPASS initial course placement assessment. It is designed to identify a student’s basic skill levels in math, reading, and language usage. COMPASS is an un-timed, user-friendly assessment given in our Testing Center. The length of testing time will depend upon the individual.

The initial course placement test may be waived if official documentation has been submitted to verify the student has:

• SAT scores of 460 or better in writing, reading, and math;
• ACT scores of 19 or better in writing, reading, and math;
• PSAT scores of 46 or better in writing, reading and math will be accepted for two years after the test was taken, after which COMPASS, ASSET, ACT or SAT scores will be required;
• Received a “C” or better in college-level English and math courses no older than 10 years from an accredited institution; or
• Earned an Associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.
