Computer
Use on campus
Usernames and passwords that are used to log into administration/faculty
and staff machines are only to be used by the person they were
assigned to. With MS Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the ability
to cancel out of the screen to access a workstation is no longer
possible. If there are any users that require access to the
administrative network, they will need to submit a request for
a username and password to Human Resources.
Transmission
of sensative data
"All student-specific or employee-specific data which
are protected by current privacy laws, regulations or policies
(i.e. FERPA) being sent over computer lines (i.e. ftp) must
be encrypted prior to transmittal to protect its accessibility
by eligible users." Our email system is not encrypted and
therefore Student and Employee specific data that contains sensitive
information such as Social Secuirty numbers should not be sent
via email. There is an encrypted system available to us for
sensitive information distribution called FileDrop that is available
to all Ivy Tech employees with Ivy Tech email accounts. A link
to the Filedrop site can be found under the Employee Services
tab on Campus Connect.
How
do I load sofware for student use?
If there is software that needs to be installed on student
computers anywhere within the campus that is received with textbooks
and other classroom materials, please forward copies of this
software to the CaTS department as soon as possible so the computer
technicians can have sufficient time to install this software.
Software that comes as part of textbooks and other classroom
materials that does not come through our department are not
made available to us unless copies are forwarded to us and a
request is made at least 2 weeks prior to the date that the
software will be needed for use. Please fill out the Software
Installation Request Form and submit it, along with your
software, in order to have it installed for student use.
