IVY TECH-WARSAW ANNOUNCES NEW LOCAL HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM

SOUTH BEND, IND. (March 5, 2007) – Ivy Tech Community College-North Central Region has expanded its Human Services Program at the Warsaw campus. Students are now able to complete an associate degree entirely by taking classes at the campus, both face-to-face in the classroom and via distance education. Upon completion, students can enter a career in social services and have the option of transferring to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The program offers specialty areas of mental health, substance abuse, gerontology and correctional rehabilitation, according to Joann Phillips, the program chair. She recommends that students interested in beginning the program enroll in Introduction to Human Services or Helping Relationship Techniques, both of which are offered during the eight-week summer semester starting May 21. Students can register up until that date.

The two-year associate degree program includes courses in helping techniques, interviewing and assessment skills, group techniques and behavior techniques, in addition to the specialty-related courses and general education core requirements. Two internships are included to provide practical clinical skills.
