IVY TECH-WARSAW INSTRUCTOR RECEIVES REGIONAL EXCELLENCE IN INSTRUCTION AWARD

SOUTH BEND, IND. (Jan. 30, 2007) – Lauran Sattler, of Warsaw, recently received the 2006-07 President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction at Ivy Tech Community College-North Central.  Sattler as a continuing education coordinator in 1993 and became a full-time faculty member of Computer Information Systems in 1997.

Sattler pioneered a collaborative course development and teaching model in which full-time and adjunct faculty act as teaching assistants in each other’s courses, providing oversight and support.  She has also developed Internet content for the Computer Information Systems/Computer Information Technology Program which serves students statewide.  Additionally, Sattler recognizes that professional certification is an important addition to a two-year degree, particularly when students have little or no practical work experience in their field of study.  Because of this she initiated certification testing as a required part of course work which raises expectations and outcomes for students.  Certification has made her students much more competitive in the job market and when obtaining internships.

Sattler received a bachelor’s degree from Goshen College and an associate in applied science from Ivy Tech. She is currently completing a master’s degree in Educational Technology Leadership and Instructional Design from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She also holds the following certifications: CompTIA A+, Server +, iNet+, Microsoft Office Specialist, Word, Excel, Access, Certified Internet Webmaster CIW Associate and Novell CNI Certified Network Instructor
