Becoming a student

Placement testing

Guest students

Before enrolling in a degree or certificate program, you must be officially admitted.

Follow these steps:
  • Register for the college placement test.
  • Complete the online application.
  • Ask the high school from which you graduated or received your GED to send an official copy of your transcript to the Office of Student Affairs. The program you select may have special requirements. Health Sciences Divison programs, for example, have a special application and testing process. Call the Office of Student Affairs for information.
  • Contact the Office of Student Affairs for a pre-enrollment information packet:
    South Bend (574) 289-7001, ext. 5325 or (574) 674-6919, ext. 5325
    Elkhart (574) 293-4657, ext 4300
    Warsaw (574) 267-5428,
    ext 6110

Placement TestingThe college placement test consists of a short series of questions in reading, writing and math. The results help your advisor know which classes to suggest to build on your skills, and to identify classes for which you are eligible to enroll. The placement test is required of all new students entering a program or applying for financial aid. Prior college classes and/or SAT or ACT scores may replace the placement test in some cases. For information about the placement test, visit the Web site at www.act.org/compass/sample.
