An apprenticeship is a method of training based on an arrangement between an employee (apprentice) and an employer or joint apprenticeship training committee. The program is a system of learning while earning and learning by doing. It combines training on the job with related and supplemental instruction in a classroom setting. The content of the training, both on the job and related instruction, is defined and dictated by the needs of a particular industry.Ivy Tech is Committed to the Skilled Trades. The college will work with your company to customize an apprenticeship program to meet your industry needs. These partnerships are based on the premise that tomorrow's workplace will require more skilled trades workers and that those workers must keep learning new technologies. The custom-designed programs also meet the guidelines set forth by their Bureau of Apprenticeship Training (BAT). Ivy Tech's joint apprentice programs include college credit courses; individuals completing the program not only achieve journeyman status but also can pursue an associate's degree.
