Ivy Tech Community College offers encouragement and focus for what many students are hoping to achieve—a fast track to education, and training to move forward in their careers as quickly as possible. For many students, some type of financial assistance is needed to make this a reality.

Scholarships in this brochure are funded by Ivy Tech Grant Funds and through the Ivy Tech Foundation. Other scholarship opportunities may be available; please contact Financial Aid or your department chair for more information. • Students applying for scholarships based on financial need must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Tuition-based scholarships apply only to tuition not covered by other assistance, such as state aid or employer assistance.
• All awards are subject to the availability of funds; late applications may be considered based on fund availability.

Zolman Tire Scholarship

Academic Merit Scholarship: $800 ($400 each of two semesters) applied to tuition. The Ivy Tech Scholarship Fund award recognizes outstanding academic accomplishments of high school seniors or recent high school graduates who have taken the ACT or SAT test and who enroll as new full-time students in any field of study. Apply to the director of admissions by April 1 for fall semester, or November 1 for spring semester. Initial selection criteria: three letters of recommendation and either ACT, minimum composite score of 22 with neither verbal or math less than 20; or SAT, minimum composite score of 1000 with neither verbal nor math less than 480. Renewal criteria: maintain a 3.3 GPA or better in general education classes and continue full-time enrollment.

Build St. Joseph County Scholarship: Up to $2,000 per year for tuition, fees and books. Provided by The Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County. Apply to director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: resident of St. Joseph County; enrolled in approved program; U.S. citizen; demonstrate financial need; full- or part-time student. Special application required, see financial aid office.

Chase Bank Early Childhood Education Scholarship – $250 each of two consecutive semesters (fall/spring or spring/summer) applied to tuition, fees and/or books. Criteria: degree- or certificate-seeking student in the Early Childhood Education program; program-ready; GPA minimum 2.0. Apply to the director of financial aid.

Coquillard Family Scholarship: $500 for one semester for a part-time student or $1,000 for a full-time student applied to tuition and books. Provided by the Coquillard family. Apply to the director of financial aid by April 1 for fall semester, or December 1 for spring semester. Selection criteria: graduate of a St. Joseph County high school; currently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College/South Bend; age 35 or under; admitted into an associate degree program; completed at least 15 credit hours, of which at least nine (9) are program level; overall GPA 3.0; full- or part-time student. May be used only for course work on South Bend campus.

County Scholarship: Tuition for up to 15 credit hours each of two semesters; renewable for one year. Provided by Ivy Tech Community College-North Central for two students from each county in its service area (Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, St. Joseph); must be used at the campus making the award. Apply to the director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: full-time degree-seeking student with no prior degree; “B” average or GED score of 54+; two letters of recommendation.

Criminal Justice Scholarship: $500 (minimum award of not less than $100 each of two semesters) applied to tuition, books and school-related expenses. Selection criteria: current full- or part-time Ivy Tech student enrolled in the Criminal Justice program who has completed at least 12 credit hours, of which 6 must be in the Criminal Justice program; an overall GPA of 2.5 and a GPA of 3.0 in Criminal Justice classes; three page personal statement (minimum 250 words) on career goals and aspirations. Standard Ivy Tech scholarship application submitted to the director of financial aid by Sept. 30 for the spring semester.

Dennis Kambs Memorial Scholarship: $500 applied to tuition, books and supplies. Selection criteria: enrolled in the Accounting program, minimum of 20 hours of program courses (not including basic skills courses in reading, writing and math), a GPA of 3.0 and a one page, typed, double-spaced personal statement on what sets you apart from other students applying for this scholarship, your goals and aspiration and how the Accounting degree you are earning will fit into those plans. Application must be submitted to the director of financial aid by Nov. 1.

Elmer Gilmore Scholarship:$500 ($250 each of two semesters) applied to tuition, books and school-related expenses. Provided in honor of Elmer Gilmore by his family, the scholarship is awarded to a current Ivy Tech student in any field of study who is at least 22 years of age. Apply to the director of admissions by April 1; a letter of recommendation required from the applicant’s school or program chair. Selection criteria: must have been an average student in high school and experienced difficulty gaining direction to his/her life.

Futures Unlimited Scholarship: Varied amount applied to tuition and/or books. Provided by the Ivy Tech Foundation for students who are dislocated workers, women returning to the workforce, minorities, and/or welfare recipients enrolling in any field of study. Apply to the Office of Financial Aid 30 days prior to the start of the semester for priority consideration. Selection criteria: financial need; proof of dislocated worker or woman returning to the workforce or minority or welfare recipient status; two letters of recommendation.

GED Scholarship: $500 ($250 each of two semesters) applied to tuition. The Ivy Tech Scholarship award recognizes new or current students who complete the GED with exceptional scores. Apply to the director of admissions by April 1 for priority consideration. Selection criteria: GED composite score of 54 or higher.

GFWC/IFC Progress Club Nursing Scholarship: $1,000 ($500 each of two semesters); may be renewable for subsequent year upon reapplication; used for tuition, fees, books and program expenses. Provided by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Indiana Federation of Clubs. Apply to the director of admissions by April 1. Selection criteria: first year ASN student who graduated from high school at least two years ago, 3.0 GPA in prerequisites, (100 word) one page personal statement addressing either the student’s educational goals or the most influential person in the student’s life. Renewal criteria: must maintain a 2.7 GPA or better in ASN program courses.

The Holmes Endowed Scholarship: Up to $500; scholarship is available in both the fall and spring semesters. Established in memory of Howard and Louise Holmes. Selection criteria: first-generation college student; degree declared; successfully completed at least one semester and six credit hours with a grade point average of 3.0; demonstrated financial need; and enrolled in at least six credit hours. Special application required, see financial aid office.

Imogene Harris Scholarship: Up to $500/year for tuition, fees and books for spring semester for students in the Criminal Justice Program. Established in honor of School of Business chair, Imogene Harris. Apply to the director of Financial Aid by Sept. 30 for the spring semester. Selection criteria: completion of at least one semester with a minimum of 15 credits, of which 6 must be in the Criminal Justice Program; GPA of 3.0 and 3.5 in criminal justice classes; 500 word personal statement on career goals and aspirations.

Julie Hunter Memorial Scholarship: $500 ($250 each of two semesters) applied to tuition and books. Provided in memory of Julie Hunter by her daughter, Joann Walgamuth. Apply to the associate director of financial aid in Warsaw by April 1 for the fall semester, or December 1 for the spring semester. Selection criteria: Phi Theta Kappa member attending the Warsaw campus.

Ivy Tech Latino Scholarship: $500 ($250 each of two semesters applied to tuition and/or books). Selection criteria: first or second generation Latino; enrolled in at least 6 credit hours; minimum GPA of 2.75; received or participated in at least one of the following: honors, awards, extra-curricular activities or community service; financial need; essay of not more than 300 words on a problem facing the Latino community and how it can be resolved and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor/ advisor or instructor/ or a clergy person or friend. Contact financial aid for application before April 1.

Lung Family Nursing Scholarship (for Elkhart campus courses) : $1500 per year ($500 each of three semesters, fall, spring and summer, applied to tuition, fees and/or books). Provided by Mervin and Dorothy Lung. Selection criteria: currently enrolled in the LPN program, minimum GPA of 3.0 in required nursing courses and a personal statement of 250-500 words addressing student's goals for the future and howa nursing degree will assist them in reaching those goals. Contact financial aid for application before July 15.

Lung Scholarship (for Elkhart campus courses): $35 per credit hour applied to tuition. Provided by Mervin and Dorothy Lung. Contact Office of Financial Aid, Elkhart campus. Criteria: any Elkhart County resident enrolled in Elkhart campus courses and not receiving tuition assistance from other sources; full- or part-time student.

Marvin Alpiner Computer Scholarship: $500 disbursed in two equal installments (near the beginning of the fall and spring semesters or may be saved and used during the summer term as needed) applied to tuition, books, fees or other allowable expenses. Selection criteria: applicant must be enrolled in Computer Information Technology, Computer Information Systems or Office Administration programs and have completed at least one half of his/her program ; GPA of 3.0 and a full-time student. Apply by April 1.

Michiana Goodwill Boosters Scholarship: Varies up to $500 for one semester for tuition, books, class supplies and fees. Provided by Michiana Goodwill Boosters. Apply to the vice president of human resources, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, by April 1 for fall semester or Nov. 1 for spring semester. Selection criteria: Goodwill Industries of Michiana employee in good standing and working at least 25 hours per week; enrolled as a student at the South Bend, Elkhart or Warsaw campus; one-page personal statement addressing how the scholarship will assist student in achieving career goals.

Mark Van Laere Memorial Scholarship - $2,000 awarded annually ($500 each of four consecutive semesters) to be applied to tuition/books and supplies. Apply to director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: financial need, current or entering student enrolled in the School of Technology, preferably with ties to Memorial Hospital; 2.0 GPA; short personal statement stating why an Ivy Tech education would assist student in achieving future career goals.

Minerva Ditton Scholarship: Varies from $100 to $500 for one semester applied to tuition. Provided in memory of Minerva Ditton for a student in the Design Technology/Architectural Specialty Program. Apply to the program chair by August 1 for the fall semester, or December 1 for the spring semester. Selection criteria: first semester full-time student.

Muessel-Ellison Minority Scholarship: $1,000 ($500 each semester); may be renewable for subsequent year; used for tuition and/or books. Provided by the Muessel-Ellison Foundation to a minority high school graduate or GED recipient seeking a degree and enrolled in six credit hours or more each semester at the South Bend campus. Apply to the director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: merit and financial need; two letters of recommendation; prior GPA of 2.5 or higher, or GED composite score of 50 or higher.

National City Scholarship: $500/year applied to tuition, fees, and/or books. Selection criteria: student must be a South Bend resident and attend the South Bend campus; be matriculated to an eligible certificate or degree program; have successfully completed at least twelve quality credit hours; possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. Apply by submitting completed standard Ivy Tech scholarship application (including personal statement) to the director of financial aid, on or before April 1 for fall semester and Nov. 1 for the spring semester.

Poling Scholarship: $1,000 ($500 each of two semesters) applied to tuition and books. Provided by Ivy Tech Foundation to a current student at least 28 years of age who has completed half of the program of study in any field. Apply to the director of financial aid by September 1. Selection criteria: merit and financial need including 3.0 GPA and a letter of recommendation from the advisor or program chair; additional forms to be completed, see financial aid office.

Regina McManus Resnik Health Scholarship: ($500 each of two semesters) applied to tuition, books and program expenses. Provided by George Resnik, Sr. Submit application to director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: full- or part-time, enrolled and in good standing in a School of Health Sciences program (preference will be given to students in the Licensed Practical Nursing program).

Ronald Jacobs Memorial Scholarship: Up to $500/year, with a minimum award of not less than $100/semester for tuition, fees and books for students in the Computer Information Systems program. Provided by friends and family of Ron Jacobs, an Ivy Tech Community College graduate and employee. Apply to director of financial aid by April 1 for fall semester and December 1 for spring semester. Selection criteria: Admitted as a degree-seeking student to the Computer Information Systems Program; successfully completed at least thirty (30) quality credit hours, of which fifteen (15) must be in the Computer Information Systems Program; overall GPA of at least 2.5, and a GPA of at least 3.0 for Computer Information Systems classes; full- or part-time student.

Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students: Varied amounts for tuition, fees, books and reasonable living expenses. Provided by the federal government to offer financial assistance to disadvantaged associate degree nursing students. Special applications distributed by nursing faculty prior to the fall semester. Selection criteria: Eligible students must come from an economically or environmentally disadvantaged background and have financial need. Preference is given to eligible disadvantaged students for whom the cost of attending would constitute a severe financial hardship.

Senior Scholarship: $500 ($250 each of two semesters applied to tuition and/or books). Provided by Ivy Tech Foundation for graduating high school seniors entering the college in any field of study. Apply to the director of admissions by April 1. Selection criteria: 2.6 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, or 6.0 or higher on a 12.0 scale; two letters of recommendation.

South Bend Clinic Medical Assisting Program Scholarship: $500 per semester applied to tuition, books and fees (may be renewable twice, for a maximum of three semesters.) Provided by the South Bend Clinic (recipient agrees to participate in publicity opportunities at the request of the South Bend Clinic.) Selection criteria: advanced medical assisting student with a minimum of 24 credits (transfer credits may be applied to minimum); GPA of 2.0 and 2.5 preferred and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member. Submit completed application to School of Health Sciences on or before May 1.

Susan Whetstone Memorial Scholarship: $250 each of two semesters applied to tuition, books and/or supplies. Selection criteria: new or returning Warsaw campus student, working part time while in school and a written recommendation (with application) from employer focusing on work habits and ability to succeed as a working student. Submit application to director of financial aid by April 1 (for fall semester) Dec. 1 (for spring).

Stettbacher Nursing Scholarship: $1,200 (up to $600 each of two semesters) applied to tuition, fees and/or books. Provided by Lynne Stettbacher, MD. Apply to the program chair by October 1. Selection criteria: full- or part-time student in the Practical Nursing or ASN Nursing program; minimum 2.7 GPA; one-page personal statement addressing how the scholarship will assist student in achieving career goals. Preference given to single mothers and students progressing through the Nursing Stair Step program.

Virginia B. Calvin Scholarship (Community Foundation) -- $1,250/year applied to tuition, fees and/or books. Criteria: Female graduate of South Bend Community School Corporation high school entering freshman year at Ivy Tech; 2.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need; pursue post-secondary education at Ivy Tech-South Bend. Annually renewable based on review of student progress and maintenance of 2.5 GPA. Apply to the director of financial aid.

Teachers Credit Union Scholarship: Tuition for up to 15 credit hours each semester (fall and spring) for one year. Provided by Teachers Credit Union. Submit application to director of financial aid by April 1. Selection criteria: financial need; full-time, degree-seeking student; two letters of recommendation.

Zolman Tire Scholarship: Varies from $100 to $500 for one semester applied to tuition and/or books. Provided by Zolman Tire Inc. Apply to the program chair by August 1 for fall semester, or December 1 for spring semester. Selection criteria: degree-seeking student in the Automotive Technology program; successful completion of at least twelve (12) quality credit hours, of which six (6) must be in the Automotive Technology Program; overall GPA of at least 2.5, with GPA of at least 3.0 in Automotive Technology classes.
