Visualizing, Creating, Connecting
Images speak more powerfully than words to your intellect and spirit. You see the ordinary in the extraordinary, the sublime in the everyday. You love to arrange objects, combine colors and juxtapose textures to communicate a message or create a mood. Your ideal job gives you limitless opportunities to push the limits of your creative medium. In short: You’re a perfect candidate for a career in the visual arts, and a great fit for one of the dynamic programs in our School of Fine Arts and Design.
Want to work as a valued member of a creative team, or a sought-after freelance artist or design consultant? Programs in Ivy Tech State College’s School of Fine Arts and Design are designed to produce well-rounded visual communicators and environmental designers who are prepared to step into entry-level positions in their field of study, or enter four-year degree programs with advanced standing.
Program activities include visual and verbal presentations to develop students’ design vocabulary and professional communication skills, as well as practical design projects to channel their creative vision and hone technical competencies. Membership in professional organizations, field trips, guest speakers and community service projects connect students to potential employers. And, field study opportunities enable them to experience first-hand the daily operations and organization of businesses in their field of study.
Student education culminates in the completion of the individual exit portfolio and resume, which demonstrate the graduate’s skills and knowledge and form the primary tool for job-seeking efforts. Faculty members who are working professionals and leaders in their field, industry advisory boards, and surveys of students and employers ensure that courses and programs meet the ever-changing needs of the workplace.
