Next to government, food service employs more people than any other industry. And you can be part of this large–and still growing–field. In Ivy Tech’s Hospitality Administration program, you’ll learn the food and menu preparation, service and hospitality techniques used by world leaders like Ritz, Escoffier, Statler, Hilton and Marriott. Instructors who are leaders in their fields will train you for an exciting career as a cook, chef, caterer, restaurant manager or other industry professional, while field experiences connect you with employment opportunities.

Program description The Hospitality Administration Program emphasizes the techniques of such hospitality leaders as Ritz, Escoffier, Statler, Hilton and Marriott, producing graduates who can perform successfully in the field. Students may specialize in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts. An internship or co-op experience is included.
Program optionsOptions include the Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) with specialties in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts, and Career Development Certificates in Beverage Management and Catering Administration. Many courses in the AAS degree program transfer to four-year programs at IU South Bend, Purdue University, Ball State University and elsewhere.

Employment outlookThe restaurant industry employs 11 million people nationwide, which makes it the nation’s largest employer outside of government. Through 2010, employment opportunities in Indiana are expected to increase 10 to 20 percent for chefs and dinner cooks, 21 to 35 percent for restaurant cooks, and 3 to 9 percent for bakers.
