Qualified Medication Aide Course description The Qualified Medication Aide course trains unlicensed health personnel to administer medications. It was developed in response to federal regulations which require that such personnel must have completed a state-approved course in medications and their administration. Individuals completing the course are eligible to take the Indiana state exam for qualification as a medication aide. The course is recommended for individuals with certified nursing aide credentials who plan a career in health care.PREREQUISITESThe course is offered to currently employed certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in long-term-care facilities who are recommended by their employer. The nursing home must provide a 40-hour clinical experience supervised by an RN/LPN at the end of the classroom sessions. Participants in the program must have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent.COURSE CONTENTThe course provides unlicensed individuals with entry-level competency in:
• Administering and handling current
medications, both oral and topical
• Adverse effects of selected medications
• Recording medication administration and its effects
• Nursing considerations for selected
medications

• Have your high school diploma or GED sent to Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
• Include documentation of 105-hour nurse aide class and three months experience, proof of nurse aid competency validation and
current registry number.
• Provide proof of 1000 hours of work as CNA
(form will be provided).
• Meet with your program advisor and register for class.
