Does the idea of being an emergency first-responder make your heart beat a little faster? Are you an emergency medical technician who wants to get to the next level of emergency care and job opportunity? Then our Paramedic Science Program may be for you. Through clinical and practical instruction as well as a field internship, youll be prepared to function in the uncontrolled environment of emergency medicine in the pre-hospital setting. Upon completion, youll qualify for state certification as an emergency medical technician-paramedic. Already a certified paramedic? Take just six general education courses, and youll earn an Associate of Science degree that transfers into four-year degree programs.

Program descriptionThe Paramedic Science program prepares competent health care providers who possess the professional qualities required to function in the uncontrolled environment of emergency medicine in the pre-hospital setting. The program qualifies graduates for state certification as emergency medical technician-paramedics. Clinical and practical instruction as well as a field internship in advanced emergency care and services are
included.
Program optionsThe program leads to the Associate of Science (AS) degree. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce or transfer to bachelor of science degree programs in health science at Southern Indiana University or human resource management at Indiana State University, both available locally via distance education.
Students wishing to become paramedics must complete the entire program (61.5 credits), which includes both paramedic and general education classes. Individuals currently certified as paramedics may earn the AS degree by completing six general education courses (18 credits), five of which must be taken at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
Application requirementsTo be considered for admission to the program, applicants must hold current certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT).

Provide treatment center staff with information about cause of emergency
Maintain vehicles and refill supplies
