If you’re interested in pursuing a four-year degree in a liberal arts field such as English and communications; foreign languages; humanities; life and physical sciences; mathematics; or social and behavioral sciences, you can start right here at Ivy Tech with our Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees in the Liberal Arts program. You’ll take a diverse mix of general education and liberal arts courses, including three or four courses in your chosen area of concentration. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for continued postsecondary education or career advancement. Many of the credits in the Liberal Arts program concentrations transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
The AA or AS in Liberal Arts is appropriate for students:
• Planning to transfer to a baccalaureate program in their chosen area of concentration
• Planning to transfer to a baccalaureate program in general studies
• Seeking a two-year degree in the liberal arts for employment mobility or personal interest
Courses of study
The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science in Liberal Arts requires 48 to 51 credits (18 to 21 courses) in general education and liberal arts, 12 credits (three to four courses) in an area of concentration. The term "liberal arts" refers to courses in literature, philosophy, languages and history, as well as survey courses in the sciences.
Employment possibilities
Skills acquired through liberal arts coursework are applicable to a number of employment settings. Individuals who are currently employed may seek to earn a degree for advancement within their job setting, or as a step toward earning a four-year degree.
