Exploring, Experiencing, ExpressingYoure curious about the world around you. You perceive the interrelationships between seemingly unrelated areas of study. You see similarities in disparity, connections in chaos. You want to know a little something about everything, to explore and experience before focusing on a single career or subject area. You belong in one of our School of Liberal Arts and Sciences programs.
The modern world moves at an astonishing rate. Familiar jobs become obsolete almost overnight; new ones spring up, demanding new skills. In fact, its been predicted that over half of all students currently in high school will work someday at jobs that dont exist now. This statistic makes it clear that the future belongs to those who have learned how to learn. Our School of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers courses and programs in a broad range of academic subject areas: language arts and communications, science and mathematics, social science and the humanities. Youll build a core of knowledge for future education and professional training, as well as the critical thinking, research and communications skills that will help you succeed, wherever the future may take you.
Academic Skills AdvancementAcademic Skills Advancement courses are designed to build skills in reading and writing for college, mathematics/basic algebra, keyboarding, study habits and goal-setting. The purpose of these courses is to prepare students for success in college-level courses. Students may be required to take one or more Academic Skills Advancement courses based on results of their skills assessment, or they may choose to take them to enhance their ability to do college work.
Program and Course AvailabilityGeneral Studies and Liberal Arts degree programs and all Academic Skills Advancement courses are offered on the South Bend, Elkhart and Warsaw campuses. The first year of the Biotechnology Program also is offered on all three campuses, with the second year offered at one of the three campuses (location to be determined).
