Program description

Accountants keep their fingers on the pulse of an organization–its financial resources. Typical responsibilities include maintaining journals and ledgers, processing banking transactions, billing and purchasing, keeping inventory records, preparing payroll, developing financial statements and analyzing managerial reports. At Ivy Tech, you’ll gain an understanding of accounting principles, business communications and related areas of study. You'll learn to work with computerized accounting systems, and you'll graduate with solid technical skills in financial accounting, cost accounting and tax preparation.

All classes are 3 credits unless indicated.

Program descriptionThe Accounting Program develops an understanding of financial and managerial accounting, business law and related areas of study. Instruction is offered in computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets. Technical skills in cost accounting, payroll and tax preparation are emphasized. An internship or co-op experience is included.
Program Options
Options include the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and Technical Certificate. All or most courses in the AAS degree program transfer into four-year programs at Bethel College, Ferris State University, Indiana State University, Davenport University, Franklin University and
elsewhere.
