Ivy Tech Community College Southern Indiana holds 36th commencement

Ivy Tech Community College Southern Indiana conducted its 36th commencement exercise on the evening of May 8th, 2007 at the Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana.

An estimated crowd of 1,500 guests attended the ceremony. Officials indicated nearly 200 Ivy Tech Southern Indiana graduates participated in the commencement. More than 400 students are expected to graduate from the campus in 2007.

Dr. Rita Shourds, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Southern Indiana, presided over the commencement ceremony.

Highlights of the evening included the recognition of faculty member Terry Quinlan as the President's Award recipient for instructional excellence, presentation of the Alumna of the Year award to 1996 graduate Janice Hill, and the commencement address given by Human Services graduate Christy Lachette.

Friend of the College Awards were presented to Indiana State Senator Connie Sipes and Indiana State Represenative Bill Cochran for their work on behalf of the college's recently approved $20 million campus expansion project.

The night was concluded with a special presentation to retiring Ivy Tech Community College President Gerald I. Lamkin. Earlier in the day, the Gerald I. and Louise T. Lamkin Flag Plaza was dedicated on the Sellersburg campus in honor of the President's 25-year tenure. President Lamkin began his Ivy Tech career 40 years ago as an adjunct faculty member. President Lamkin will leave his post at the end of June.
