Distance education offers students the flexibility and convenience of taking classes while also maintaining personal and professional commitments. Distance education classes may be taken via the Internet or two-way video .   Some courses may be hybrid courses (H). A hybrid course is a course that is taught online; however, students are also required to attend face-to-face meetings or lab sessions on a particular campus.

Before Enrolling in a Distance Education course
Review the Distance Education course offerings at http://www.ivytech.edu/cgi-bin/disted2.cgi . By selecting the course, campus, and start date, students can see a list of campuses that will be offering the course(s) they need.
Register for courses via Online Student Services at Campus Connect. (New students will need to attend a new student orientation and registration session before registering for courses).
Complete the Study Skills and Technology Skills assessments.

Review the technical equipment and software needs at Technical equipment required .
Know how to access the print and online resources from the Ivy Tech library. Sellersburg students may access print and online publications from the Paul Ogle Virtual Library ; all Ivy Tech students can access library resources by selecting the Library tab on the Campus Connect web portal.
If you are taking an ONLINE COURSE, order your textbooks and required materials from the Statewide Online Bookstore   http://bookstore.ivytech.edu/
If you are taking a two-way course, order your textbooks from your campus bookstore.

After Enrolling in a Distance Education course
You should receive a postcard via mail or email from the distance education coordinator for the course you selected--online courses come from different Ivy Tech campuses.   To know where your online course comes from, check the LAST LETTER of the course/section number (BIO 220-11 M )   These letters stand for the various campuses listed below:

A Gary, Valparaiso, Michigan City, East Chicago G Terre Haute, Greencastle
B South Bend, Warsaw, Elkhart H Indianapolis
C Fort Wayne I Richmond, Connersville
D Lafayette J Columbus, Bloomington
E Kokomo, Logansport, Wabash K Madison, Lawrenceburg
F Muncie, Anderson, Marion L Evansville, Tell City

Students enrolled in Sellersburg distance education courses should view the course syllabus and other important information at Sellersburg Course Information.

Before your Distance Education course begins

Register for a face-to-face orientation session; session dates and times can be viewed at Sellersburg Course Information . First-time distance education students are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session so that they are properly prepared for class.

Know whom to contact for assistance, if needed. Sellersburg students may contact Elaine Bennington or Kim Pelsor   kpelsor1@ivytech.edu     You will be receiving a postcard either by mail or email into your ivytech.edu account--please use this free email account for all your Ivy Tech communications.

For technical problems or password reset for Campus Connect or BlackBoard, email the HelpDesk at Indianapolis at http://www.ivytech.edu/helpdesk/ .

On the first day of class

YOUR ONLINE COURSE WILL NOT SHOW UP ON BLACKBOARD UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.   Access your ONLINE course by going to Campus Connect and click the "Courses" tab. On the far left side of the screen, click the logo to access your course.


Submit test proctoring information to your instructor, if required. Sellersburg students who wish to use the Testing Center may go to the web site to view testing center hours and procedures. A complete listing of approved test proctoring sites can be viewed at http://www.ivytech.edu/elearning/support/testing-sites/ .

Indiana College Network (ICN)
The Indiana College Network (ICN) was developed in 1994 and is operated by the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS). ICN provides students access to credit & non credit distance education classes and programs offered by Indiana colleges and universities.
