- Meet with an Admissions
Counselor to discuss your interest in investing your future
at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
- Degree
seeking students must take and courses only students may need to take the
COMPASS test. This is Ivy Tech's assessment
instrument that will assist you and your academic advisor in making
appropriate course selectoins. Contact the Student Affairs Office to
arrange a testing session. (There is no charge for taking the COMPASS
test).
- All new students should complete an application
for admission. Degree seeking students
should do this at the COMPASS testing
session. Courses only students should complete the application at the
time of registration.
- All degree seeking students
must have a high school transcript
or GED scores on file before starting their second term at Ivy Tech.
A request for transcript should be filled out at your COMPASS
testing session.Students that have not yet completed high school or
a GED should discuss their situation with their academic advisor.
- If you have previously completed college coursework
at a regionally accredited college or university, have an official
transcript sent to us for assessment waiver and transfer purposes.
- Schedule an appointment with
your academic advisor. Simply call Ivy Tech and tell the switchboard
operator that you need to schedule an advising appointment and what
program you are interested in.
- Meet with your academic advisor at the appointed
time to schedule classes. This is a good
time to ask any remaining questions that you may have. Degree seeking
students must meet with an advisor prior
to registration. Courses only students are also encouraged to meet with
an advisor.
- Pay your fees. You are not officially registered
until payment arrangements have been made with the Business Office.
If you are receiving financial aid, check with the Financial Aid Office
to make sure that all of your paperwork is in order.
- Buy your books. Virtually every class uses a book.
Books are available at the Campus bookstore in Whitewater Hall and the
Connersville Instructional Center. Always get your books prior to the
first class session. Read a few chapters ahead if possible so that you
will be prepared for your first class. (Students planning to charge
books against their financial aid balance should check with the Financial
Aid Office for instructions.)
- Attend a New student orientation session. If your
advisor did not schedule a session for you, contact the Student Affairs
Office to do so. This session will give you another opportunity to ask
questions and learn more about the college.
- Locate all of your classrooms before the first
class meets. This is particularly important if you are not familiar
with all of Ivy Tech's locations. Your classes may not all meet in the
same building.
- Attend every class. There are hundreds of reasons
why you might consider skipping class. Our experience shows, however,
that the single best predictor of class performance is attendance. The
general rule is "be in class whenever possible." If you must
miss a class, make sure to contact your instructor as soon as possible
to explain your situation and to talk about making up the missed assignment.
- Last but not least, contact your advisor, or the
Student Affairs Office, whenever you have a question. Don't wait for
a question to become a problem. We are here to
help!
