Students
Seeking a Degree or Certificate
Ivy Tech is an open admissions college, accessible
to all Indiana citizens past high school age. The standard requirements
for admission to Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana are:
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Submit a completed application for admission.
- Completion of COMPASS basic skills
assessment.
You must also complete a transcript request form
and have an official copy of your high school transcript or GED
test scores mailed to Ivy Tech. If you have neither a high school
diploma nor GED certificate, you may enroll at Ivy Tech, but must
achieve satisfactory scores on the College's assessment test to
be admitted as a degree-seeking student, and to be eligible for
financial aid. Once you are admitted to a degree-seeking program,
you must earn a high school diploma or GED certificate within one
year to remain in degree-seeking status.
To ensure success, all degree-seeking students must
participate in the COMPASS basic skills
assessment or it's equivalent. The assessment is designed to measure
achievement in basic skills areas of mathematics, reading, and writing
and communication, and to provide guidance in the selection of courses.
If the assessment reveals skill deficiencies, you will be advised
to complete appropriate refresher courses. (Assessment testing may
be waived if you submit either an official transcript from an accredited
post-secondary institution indicating successful achievement or
acceptable alternative standardized test scores (i.e., SAT, ACT).)
Ivy Tech reserves the right to guide the enrollment
of students in particular programs or courses on the basis of past
academic records and assessment. Students seeking admission to certain
programs in the Health and Human Services Division may be requested
to take part in specific pre-enrollment assessments and/or interviews
to fulfill college or external agency requirements. Certain prerequisites
such as health examinations may also be required before enrolling
in specific programs or courses.
Students
Not Seeking a Degree
Admission as a non-degree student can be achieved
in most cases simply by submitting a completed registration form
in the Office of Student Affairs. However, enrollment in some courses
requires completion of prerequisite courses and/or approval of the
program chairperson. All students are urged to meet with an advisor
before enrolling. Non-degree-seeking students enrolling in general
education courses are required to take the COMPASS
assessment; other non-degree-seeking students are strongly encouraged
to take the assessment. Students who are attending on a courses-only
basis are ineligible for federal and state financial assistance.
