The job market for the practical nursing remains steady with a predicted growth rate of 23% from 2008-2018 in the state of Indiana.
The Practical Nursing program prepares student to enter the workforce in just under a two year time frame. The student once finished with the technical certificate is eligible to apply to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure exam, otherwise known as NCLEX-PN. Once licensed the practical nurse work environments include long-term care, clinics, home care, group homes, and with chronically ill individuals. The practical nursing usually works under the supervision of a registered nurse. Opportunities for career advancement include transitioning back into the Associate of Nursing degree.
