Discovering the Innovators... The Process & Steps

There are several steps to the selection of the Members, Fellows and Chanute Prize recipients for the Society of Innovators.

Every year, theres is a "call for nominations" in which a call goes out in mid-May for nominations for innovative individuals and teams across the seven counties of Northwest Indiana: Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke Counties.

The nominations open on April 16th for educators and administrators in K-12 grades and on May 10th for all other nominations; they close on July 5th, 2013. Nominations are only accepted online.

The nominations are reviewed by reviewers and recommendations are made to the Board of Governors for their July meeting on the following:

  1. Selection of new Members to be inducted that fall at the Society induction at the Horseshoe Casino, bother individuals and teams
  2. Finalists picked as Fellow Candidates, typically 12 individuals are selected for interviews
  3. Team finalists picked as Chanute Prize candidates, typically five teams are selected for interviews

Society Judges gather in mid-September to review the nominations and make their selections.

The new Members are advised in advance they will be inducted at the Society Induction. Also, the new Fellows and Chanute Prize recipient(s) are similarly advised they will be inducted at the Society Induction.

This year's Innovators - both individuals and teams - will be inducted at a reception at 5:15 p.m. in the ballrooms of Horseshoe Casino on Thursday, October 17th, 2013.
