Use Google
Book Search to access information about books
and full-text when available
In addition to the freely-available Web search engine,
Google also offers a special tool for finding information about books. (Perhaps you've already heard about Google's project to scan hundreds of thousands of books in major libraries.) Use
the Google Books search box below, on our Virtual
Library home
page, or go directly to http://books.google.com.
Things to remember:
- You won't be able to view the full-text of all the books you find using Google Books. Books published before 1923, government publications, and books that the copyright holders make available will, in most cases, have full-text accessible.
- The Advanced Search screen for Google Books offers more options for configuring your search.
- The "Full View" option limits your return list to books and publications that offer full-text.
- The "Library Catalogs" option in the Advanced Search (or the "Find this book in a Library" option) sends the search to WorldCat where you can find out if a library near you, including an Ivy Tech Library, owns this book.
- Remember, this is a "beta" technology. It
will not always work seamlessly. Library staff can provide
assistance.
