Library Technical Assistant Program


Library Technical Assistant - Associate of Science Degree

This AS degree is offered totally online. It is available to students ANYWHERE who are interested in working in libraries in a support staff position.

Graduates of the program will have an understanding of the history of libraries and the functions and roles of the different types of libraries, and will have an understanding of and be functionally proficient in: basic library technical services including ordering, processing, and copy-cataloging of the variety of types and forms of materials found in libraries; library public support services including circulation, interlibrary loan, and basic reference, and computer operations as they relate to library functions. Graduates may also have specialty skills related to special types of libraries such as school media centers and health science libraries or technology-related functions of libraries.

The Library Technical Assistant Program consists of 25 credit hours in general education courses and 36 credit hours in technical courses. It is designed to transfer to the General Studies bachelor's OR SIMILAR degree AT MOST FOUR YEAR SCHOOLS. Graduates of this program would be employable in public, school, academic, or special libraries.

Course Registration Information:

Returning students can register online through Campus Connect.

New students may register in person at their local campuses or in most cases, may use this FORM (fill it out online, then print, and mail or Fax to your local campus).

Arrange payment of tuition by doing one of the following :

  1. Call your Bursar’s Office using a MasterCard, Visa, or Discover.
  2. Mail a check to Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Bursar’s Office (must arrive before specified date to avoid a late fee).
  3. Pay online --see Campus Connect. You will need to wait until the next business day after you are registered to be sure you are in the system --and allow for mailing days.)
  4. If an agency, employer, or the National Guard has agreed to be responsible for your tuition and fees, you must make sure your Bursar’s Office has an official document from the sponsor prior to the start of classes. A letter should be mailed or faxed on letterhead stating the name of the course and the name of the student and the employer’s intent to pay. Payment in this fashion does not need to be received before specified date (check your local campus), but the letter of intent does.

You will receive information in the mail before classes start with instructions on how to log into the course on our eLearning/Blackboard site. Everything you need to know to proceed with the course can be found on eLearning/Blackboard.
