IvyCat
IvyCat is the name of the online catalog. It has records for the books, CDs, videos, and other items that can be found at Ivy Tech libraries across Indiana. An item record is a listing of information about the item, including title, author, call number, subject, location and status. IvyCat searches all the records in the system for the search terms you enter. If it finds the search term(s) the record is displayed in a results list for you to view.
To use IvyCat:

1. Go to www.ivytech.edu
2. Select Library from the left column navigation, Virtual Library from the page and Northeast from the list of campuses
3. Under Search and Find, select the last link, IvyCat (Catalog). The search screen that appears provides fill-in boxes (a box that you type into) and drop-down menus (a box that offers a selection of choices) to refine your search see figure 1. The first drop-down menu gives you three choices as to how IvyCat looks for your search terms in the library item records. All of these finds records that include all of the search terms you entered; as a phrase looks for all of the search terms in the same word order you put them in; and any of these pulls up records that contain any (not necessarily all) of your search terms in any order.
4. Type your search terms in the first fill-in box
5. On the same line, choose from as a phrase, all of these, or any of these at the drop-down menu to the right of the fill-in box
6. At the Search in drop-down menu on the same line, look for your search terms in the title, author name, subject, or a keyword found anywhere in the record.
7. Click Search

After clicking the Search button, a results list, created by the terms you searched for, will appear see figure 2.

From the results list you can see the title, the author, year, location (which Ivy Tech library holds the item), call number, and status (whether it is charged (checked out) or not charged (not checked out). If the location is listed as Title has multiple holdings it is held at multiple Ivy Tech libraries; click the title to view the list. Search Limits

1. Click the Post Limit button at the top right of the results list to limit your search to a single location see figure 3
2. In the drop-down menu next to Location: press the down arrow until you find the location you prefer
3. Press the Set Limits button. A new results list will display only those items that can be found in the location you specified
4. For more information on an item, click its title from the results list

Tips for Using IvyCat

• Capitalization, punctuation, and words like and, a, an and the are not necessary in an IvyCat search.
• To erase limits that you have set, go back to the main search screen by clicking Search and press the pencil eraser graphic.
• If a book you want is located at another library, request it by filling out a borrowing from other libraries (ILL). Forms can also be found at the circulation desk. A librarian will request the book for you and let you know when it has arrived, in approximately 2 weeks.
