| Yes,
metasearch engines such as Dogpile are very powerful tools in finding
information available on the "open" web. However, there is also
what librarians and others refer to as the "invisible" web--resources
that search engines and directories do not search. A Dogpile search WILL
NOT give you "hits" from library subscribed databases such as
EBSCOhost and ProQuest. Nor will it bring back hits from within thousands
of databases maintained by government, corporate, and non-profit agencies
that require starting a search from their webpages. So, don't be misled.
Search engines are powerful tools, but know their limitations. |
