Citation Styles Choosing A Style: MLA or APA
Ivy Tech instructors may ask you to cite sources using one of the citation styles below:
  • APA: The style recommended by the American Psychology Association and considered a scientific style for courses such as psychology.
  • MLA: The style recommended by the Modern Language Association and often used within many humanities courses, such as English composition, literature, history, and some technical writing courses.

Which style you should use may already be determined by your instructor. Be sure to check which is required for your coursework. Stick with one citation style within the same assignment, (either APA or MLA), for consistency.
