A+—NEW!
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ Certification has always included two parts: one exam focused on operating systems skills and technologies and a second exam focused on computer hardware skills and technologies. The updated certification will continue using a two-exam model, but both exams will now have hardware and operating systems questions, as well as questions from additional domains such as safety, computer security, environmental issues, and communication and professionalism. As technology, businesses, customers and working environments have changed, so have the necessary skills of an IT worker. The new structure of the A+ certification reflects industry demand for IT workers with well-rounded skill sets.

The 2006 update introduces four new exams:
• CompTIA A+ essentials
• CompTIA A+ IT technician (elective)
• CompTIA A+ remote support technician (elective)
• CompTIA A+ depot technician (elective)
The A+ certification will be earned by passing the CompTIA A+ essentials exam plus one of the remaining three elective exams.

Candidates that are interested in certification in two or more job role areas may take additional “elective” exams without having to repeat the A+ essentials exam.
