Ivy Tech education degree to transfer to IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind.—Ivy Tech Community College recently reached an agreement with Indiana University Kokomo that will ensure that its education degree will transfer to IU Kokomo. The new program-to-program transfer option will enable students with an associate degree from Ivy Tech in education to transfer to IU Kokomo as a junior, allowing them to earn a bachelor’s degree in education.

Dr. Pamela J. Lewis, vice chancellor of academic affairs for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region, is excited about the new agreement.

"This transfer agreement will allow students in our region to remain in their home communities to earn both their associate and bachelor’s degrees in education. It is a great opportunity for both Ivy Tech and IU Kokomo to create greater access for students to an education degree and represents a good educational partnership for the two institutions."

The agreement spans all three levels of education: early childhood, elementary, and secondary. For each of the three Bachelor of Science degrees IU Kokomo offers in education, Ivy Tech will offer a respectively focused Associate of Science degree in education. The articulation is consistent with the Commission for Higher Education’s State Policy on Associate Degree Programs Offered at Public Institutions in Indiana and builds yet another bridge between Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University. In May, both schools announced an agreement that will eliminate duplicate programs and will make Ivy Tech the state’s primary provider of two-year associate degree programs.
