Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus ranked first among schools with an enrollment of 10,000 students or more, as it experienced a 20.1 percent enrollment increase from Fall 2006 to Fall 2007. The growth has continued for the Indianapolis campus as Fall 2008 enrollment has surpassed 17,500. The same rings true for the entire Ivy Tech system, as statewide enrollment is now more than 88,000 students this Fall.
“We are honored to be recognized as the nation’s fastest growing community college campus as we strive to serve every Central Indiana resident by providing those individuals with an affordable, quality education,” said Dr. Hank Dunn, Chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus. “We are excited to welcome these new students and will continue to expand our services and offerings to reach even more students in the future and to improve the economic viability of the greater Indianapolis area.”
This is the second time the Indianapolis campus has received the top ranking. In 2005, Ivy Tech’s Indianapolis campus also ranked first among the nation’s fastest growing community colleges. In 2007, the campus ranked ninth.
Among schools with an enrollment of 5,000 to 9,999 students, Ivy Tech’s Fort Wayne campus ranked 21st with an 11.6 percent enrollment increase from Fall 2006 to Fall 2007, while Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus ranked 13th among schools with an enrollment of 2,500 to 4,999 students as they experienced a 14.2 percent enrollment increase from Fall 2006 to Fall 2007.
“Ivy Tech continues to enroll a record number of students as they make the connection between educational attainment and increased employability and earnings potential,” said Ivy Tech Community College President Thomas J. Snyder. “We have demonstrated our ability to change lives, and change Indiana, by giving its diverse groups of students access to higher education regardless of any barriers they may face. It is clear students are responding to Ivy Tech’s promise of affordable, quality education that leads to a good-paying job, stable career and credits that transfer.”
Community College Week releases its yearly rankings based on enrollment from one year prior and considers only students who are enrolled in courses that accrue toward an associate degree, certificate or other formal award.
Ivy Tech Community College is one of the nation’s largest statewide community college systems and the state’s second largest public post-secondary institution with more than 120,000 students enrolled annually. Ivy Tech has 23 campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
