KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College’s Department of Workforce and Economic Development will be hosting two Careers in Energy information sessions on Thursday, June 11. The sessions will run from 10 to 11 a.m. and again from 6 to 7 p.m. Both will be held in Alumni Hall on Ivy Tech’s main Kokomo campus, 1815 E. Morgan St.
Attendees will learn about careers and training for jobs in energy including gas technology, power plant technology and electric line technology.
Several area businesses and educational partners will be presenting at the sessions. Presenters from the energy industry will include representatives from NIPSCO and Duke Energy. They will discuss the jobs in the field today, what opportunities will be available in the future, the future of the industry overall, training and job responsibilities, compensation, opportunities in management and supervision, and the transferability of job skills. Educational partners, Ivy Tech and WorkOne, will discuss the programs and services available to job seekers, training opportunities, the admissions process and financial aid.
The information sessions are part of the Indiana Energy Consortium (IEC), a partnership among American Electric Power, Alcoa Power Plant, Citizens Gas, Duke Energy, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Indianapolis Power & Light Company, Miller Pipeline, NIPSCO/NiSource, REMCs, Vectren and Ivy Tech Community College. The IEC’s mission is to create an ongoing partnership between energy industries, education and workforce development organizations to assure that an adequate supply of qualified, skilled workers are available to meet the needs of the energy industry in Indiana.
